WHEN SUPERSTITION MEETS SOCIAL MEDIA
When it comes to the digital world, most times it’s hard to even know what to believe, what to ignore and what not to ignore. Some influencers have device really good ideas to make more followers and also increase their traffic and they have made us believe in some things that are just mere superstitions. Actually, I never thought there could be digital superstitions, but today, I have found out that there are and I have always known them. Well, the major digital superstition I have had is mostly text related.
So for this week’s digi-prompts, we are asked to share any digital superstitions we have encountered and I’ll be sharing my own side of the story, hehe. Superstition is something that is almost in everything we do. People bring up things just to scare us to do their bidding since they know we are ignorant in that regard or they just hold on to the things that they know too that is also a superstition and they make others believe that same thing. The chain just keeps moving.
I have my own fair share of some digital superstitions. It all started when I created a Facebook account some years back. Before scrolling through 5 posts from people, I would have seen a post saying like, share and comment if you want this or don’t want this. It was really threatening and blackmailing. When I go to the comment section, I see a lot of comments and likes because everyone is either scared of missing out or they fear they will be guilty if they don’t do what they are being asked to do.
There was one time I was on Facebook and I read a touching writeup and we were asked to type “I shall not die”. I was already used to these messages at that time so I just laughed and scroll through. A lot of persons typed it because they were scared of dying and it is only normal. No one wants to die so that was a very good idea of a post to drive some good traffic. People will always feel scared once it has to do with their life, money, family and those things they hold dear.
Most of these digital superstitions that has to do with share this or that before you can get something or share so something can happen, are just some tactics they use to make people do their bidding. Especially for those who say they believe in God, we are the most vulnerable people to these things because you will just see one, type I love Jesus if you truly love him, lol.
Well, the truth is, we can’t prove we love Jesus by just typing it on a platform or something, it is by our actions that we prove that. If you study your Bible some of these things won’t even move you at all. These people just feign on our naivety and we just fall for it. I fell for it a couple of times until I finally became wiser and I just laugh and scroll pass when I see most of these things.
Thanks for reading through. ❤️

Funny thing is that those kind of messages still fly around social media, and I wonder who still sits down to create such messages
I doubt it will ever stop. 😂
You were on facebook? Who uses facebook lately? But for real, I ignore those messages when I see them - it’s everywhere!
Something like, “I know many people will ignore this….” - Yes me personally will😅
I’m still on Facebook but I don’t use it often.
Guyyyy! Do you get?! 🤣
It’s my pleasure. 🥰
The people who make such posts know very well that it would fly because we in this part of the world can be easily blackmailed. Our level of superstition is so high. At some point, I used to be bothered when I saw the posts, but now I just skip. I can't fall for that cheap trick
Yeah, some of us have learnt.
Thanks for stopping by. 🥰
