STUDENT BUDGET HACK ON SAVING
When it comes to saving money, I can’t say I’m not good at it but then, sometimes I get to that point when I just use almost all I have saved, on something really pressing rather than borrow from someone when I’ll still use that same money to pay back. The truth is, living as a student as sweet and easy as it may seem for some, it is indeed a hard bone to break for others. Ever since I got into the university, saving and spending on budget has always been one thing that I try to do to avoid me getting into debts. If for any reason I’m even borrowing money from someone, it is an amount that I can easily pay back or sometimes something I already have but not accessible.
And that means I always have to be conscious of how I spend and the problems I get in, lol. So for this week, the Hive student connect has employed us to talk about how we manage to save as students. So let’s dive into some of the ways I save as a student.
One way I manage to save as a student was by always avoiding unnecessary movements. I always love staying indoors if I know I don’t have any classes or assignments to submit in school. Just leaving your house alone is expensive and no matter how you try to stay away from spending, you might not be able to avoid it sometimes.
Another way I manage to save money is to always work with my budget. In a way, I don’t really have any steady allowances from anyone. So I try to work with only what I can afford for myself and if there are extras from home or others, I’m just grateful and most times put them in savings. Since I’m depending more on what I can provide for myself, it’s easier for me to plan my money very well until when I know I will have another money.
Anytime I get any substantial amount of money, I always use that money to buy food stuffs at home and I make sure to go to the market because that is where it is cheapest. By getting things in bulk, I keep a little cash for miscellaneous just incase I need money for bus or cab on days when I’m late for classes or meetings. Or when I need money to pay for impromptu fees in school like I did recently.
Other ways I manage money as a student is by planning ahead. I know saving money is hard and that is why I always try to plan ahead so I don’t fall into any money crisis. I always save something no matter how small it is, weekly. And if at any point I need money, I don’t just take everything out (except on rare occasions) and I use it to settle things. That way, even when I don’t have so much, I’m not worried of money problems.
Of course there are other ways I manage to save money as a student but these are the major ones. What about you? How are you saving money currently as a student or how did you save money while you were a student?
