MAKING THE MOST OF THE BREAK

Holidays comes every now and then and one holiday that is always certain is the end of year holiday and this is so not just because of the Christmas celebration but it is a very good time for everyone to pause, give thanks and reevaluate how their life has been so far. I’m one of those happiest people about this holiday and that is due to the fact that I won’t be going for classes under the hot sun almost every day again until the about 14 days from today.

The truth is, there has never been a time when I did not appreciate holidays and that is because of how much I think I have work and I just need a break. Growing up, I always wish I had more time to sleep but then, even when this opportunity comes sometimes, I somehow end up using it for something else because I don’t feel satisfied with where I am, so the holiday at that point becomes my saving grace as I then tell myself at that point to relax a little and recuperate.

For this little holiday that I have got, it is filled with so many activities to accomplish and I almost have no choice but to work really hard to accomplish it. The top of the list is studying for my upcoming examinations. The fear of failure is real because anytime I try to do anything that isn’t reading at this point, it scares me and it just pushes me to try again, again and again. So far so good, I can spend more than 3 hours on my books daily and that is because I don’t have classes to attend and also because I’m very lazy when it comes to reading.

Reading is on the top of my list because I have so much to cover and I have done little or nothing. And for some reasons, I find it hard to retain most of the information I have read on, but then, I believe that it is somewhere in my head so I won’t give up adding more information to it and if I still have time, I will go over it again. This exam is very important for me to do very well because, as a direct entry student, I’m forced to go into 200 level with some 100 level courses and adding it to my workload will only make it more draining and I don’t want to add more of those courses to my list moving into 300 level.

Reading is not all I’ll be using this holiday for. At the moment, I traveled to my sister’s place and she already delivered her baby, so basically I’m also here for babysitting. Luckily for me, the baby is not one that disturbs a lot. And that gives me time for my books and other things. Taking care of the baby is something I’m so happy about because I don’t think I will get the opportunity to take care of anyone after him. I would have also missed taking care of him too because of my school workload but then, I’m glad I didn’t.

And finally, this holiday is an opportunity for me to rest and eat well. Back at school, there are some days when I will have to go bed without eating due to how tired I was after returning from school. By the time I’m awake, all the shops would have closed and I will just wait until the next morning to buy snacks until I return back home from class. Most times, this happens when I’m overthinking what to eat and also it is a way to save up money.

Overall, I’m so glad I got this break and I’m very ready to make good use of it. All of these things I have mentioned are important but the most important one is my studies.

Thank you for stopping by. ❤️

Hey there, Hopey.
I'm really excited about this break. This holiday is for us to read and rest. I know how stressful the past few months were for you. I know how you had to retire to bed without eating, going to school, church and coming home tired. This holiday is to take a break from it all. Rest well and eat well.

It is nice that you have it all planned out. Let’s make the best out of it.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes oo, this is our chance to read and rest well.

Thank you for being by my side during those times, it wasn’t easy but I’m happy we are successfully coming to an end.

It’s always a pleasure to have you stop by, Favey. ❤️

Hahahaha, eat ooo so we know where you will add some little flesh. Studying is one good gift you can give to yourself at this time because there is no stood reason you should fail and to avoid proceeding to the level with the 100level courses.

Is as if you are a professional baby seater😜😜🚆, please you are also invited to my house so my kids will have those wonder touch.

I do wish you well this season and beyond, eat for two abeg.

That second paragraph made me smile, hehe. When it comes to taking care of children, I can be very resilient no matter what.

Thank you for agreeing with me that I need the rest and good food. I will do well to eat for two. 🤭

How I wished I could come for a mentorship on how to have an organised holiday like this. Good to know that you have already set your priorities.

I never knew I could even plan something like this before, until I became more intentional about things.

I was patient enough to read to the end. You emphasized reading, and you also mentioned babysitting. It's a common wish among students to make use of their holidays for reading, but I would argue that only a few adhere to that.
In fact, as a civil engineering graduate, I can attest that massive failures occurred with high frequency among students after returning from holidays in my time.

I wish you a happy holiday. Read while you can.

Yeah, that’s almost my fear but I don’t want to give that fear a place in my life at all. I will just keep doing what I need to do while trusting in God to help me.

Thank you, for the best wishes. I wish you all the best too. 🥰
