LIGHT ON MY BACK

One beautiful thing about journeys is that things don’t always stay the same even though that’s how they always seem. You know how it is when you always travel along the same path and you just feel like it’s the usual thing and you stop finding anything new or fun along that path because to you, it’s still the same old things and besides you used that path some days or weeks ago. That’s exactly how most journey feels like especially for those people who embark on a journey daily.

Personally, I don’t travel often but I love it. I enjoy taking the same old path because I always want to be on the lookout for what’s new but I love newer paths more because I want to see completely new things too. I like the old path because I want to know just how much attentive I can be to details. How much I notice the improvements that has been made and the things that are yet to change. There is this particular path I usually take when traveling to visit my friend and her family, the road has been bad for as long as I can remember and every time I use that road, I always keep hoping to see they have started some repairs or something on it.

For the new paths, I don’t know what to expect, I’m always anticipating what my experience will be like. The people I’ll meet, the things I’ll see and even the snacks or drinks I’ll get if I needed one. There’s just a whole lot of things to expect on a new journey. But in all of these, traveling light makes the journey even more worthwhile and enjoyable because that gives you the chance and freedom to focus on what you need to focus on as you journey. If I’m traveling heavy, I’ll be more focused on my baggage and trying to make sure I don’t forget anything at any point of my journey but it’s different if I just have one or two bags that are easy to move around.

Before minimalist, I cared very little about traveling light. I never or better put, I hardly sorted my bags. I just put in whatever I felt I’ll need and sadly, most times I don’t even end up using some of them. It was like that until I started learning and mingling with the minimalist community. A lot of things changed. It’s as if I understood my needs better because I can easily know what I’d need and what I won’t be needing. Most times, once I’m done sorting my stuff, I just look at how small and perfect my bag is and it gives me so much joy and satisfaction.

Traveling light for me these days is not just about carrying few things, it’s about being able to carry just what I need in the exact number. Yes, there are days I need more but I always plan for those things too. I make sure they are things that I can easily get at a convenient store and it’s not something that has much varying price. It’s just always sweet traveling light and I’m always happy whenever I look back to the day I saw this path (minimalism) and the other day I chose to take this path.

Thank you for reading through. ❤️

That’s another level of self consciousness. The ability to tell your strengths and expectations. You’re doing mighty fine dear. 🌺

It took me time. At some point I was so tempted to just do the usual but then, I realized being intentional about things changes a lot of things and this one wasn’t an exception.

Thank you so much for your comment, lovely Deraa. 🌹

What a beautiful, inspired take on this week's theme. I really enjoyed it, thank you :) Yes, I like purchasing things in a place when and if necessary too - surprising how much that saves you carrying needlessly, as you often find you don't need all the little things (especially if you have to decide whether to pay for a new one while there, you know?). But most of all, I enjoyed the discussion of old and new paths here :) Each with its own value.`

You’re welcome! I’m happy you could relate with my experience. Buying some things is just one of the best ways of traveling light and it’s even nicer because I get to take a walk and see my new environment. I usually enjoy being indoors but I’m happy when I have a good reason to go out.

Thank you for your lovely comment. 🌹

I used to love new paths a lot until a particular evening I was travelling home from the East. The driver got an info that the road ahead was bad/blocked, so he decided to take another route. Omo, the driver was driving us into the Nollywood-like evil forest. It wasn't interesting at all.

Abeg, I prefer new path is there's no danger. But count me out if it's scary 😅

Hahaha. That’s why I don’t travel to new places for the first time late or alone except it’s not really far and the road is not that bad.

Of course, I won’t want to just travel to a place that is scary, as how naw? What happened to my house? I’m not going on an adventure, it’s travel I’m traveling, lol.

its a blessing to recognize that limit.
