ECCLESIASTES ON MONEY: A SOLUTION, NOT A SAVIOR

According to the book of Ecclesiastes, the Bible stated that “money answers all things.” Let’s pause for a minute and try to examine why this statement was made. This was the second to the last statement the wise man said before he concluded that particular chapter of the Bible. He was talking about so many things that as humans we get wrong and how we chase after the things that don’t matter because of our foolishness which we see as wisdom and so many other things. When it said money answers all things, he was agreeing with the fact that money indeed is able to give us the so many things that can make our lives much easier but all of these won’t make sense to us in the end if we don’t do the things that are right before God.

Happiness is one thing that I believe is a choice we have to make as humans because there are so many things that are out there ready and also trying to snatch the things that give us happiness and also, there are some things we find happiness in that in the end only brings us so much sorrow but we hardly ever realize that until it is too late and that’s why King Solomon went further to say that money answers all things. Money has so much roles it plays in our lives and this can give us happiness but it can’t buy us the happiness and that is because in life, there is time for everything. There is a time to be happy and a time to be sad. No matter how happy we are, there is always a time when we will feel sad.

Today, money is one thing that indeed answers literally all things. But then, it doesn’t buy us all of them. But it can enhance a lot of things for us. It can make us happy even if it can’t buy us happiness. It can help us maintain good health even if it can’t buy is good health. It can help us show and sustain love even if it can’t buy us true love. It can give us a strong will to do the right things but it can never buy us our salvation and eternal life. It can help us achieve a lot of things but it can never replace God’s promises and purpose for us and so much more. The idea is that, indeed money can do everything but not in an absolute sense.

And because of the impact money has on so many things, it is why we keep working so hard to get money that we sometimes even miss the point even without knowing. A lot of times, we argue that money is bad but the Bible stated it clearly that money in itself is never our problem, in fact it is a good solution to every of our earthly needs but then, the problem is “the love” we have for it. Sometimes we are willing to do anything just to get money even if it is wrong in the sight of God and even humanity, and that there is the problem. It is good to be hardworking and diligent in working to get wealth but that should be done in a way that pleases God or for those who don’t believe in God, it should at least serves humanity right then everything will be fine.

This is my response to the realtalk prompt on whether or not money can buy us happiness.
