DEEDS INDEED

One thing I try to live by daily is that I should do only things I know I won’t mind if others do to me. As humans, it’s easy for us to forget what we think is right especially when it seems like everyone is doing something different from what we think or know is the right thing to do. So personally for me, what helps me is the passage in the Scriptures that says we should do unto others what we would like others to do unto us.

Giving or showing a heart of kindness whether or not it is us trying to be kind or not, is a good thing and sometimes it becomes hard to tell if a person’s deed is of good intentions or not. Lately, it’s common what we see on social media of people showing a heart of kindness and spelling it all out to the world. For me, I don’t see anything wrong with that person doing that because it is for one or both out of two reasons. First, he or she wants to encourage others to be kind and secondly he or she wants to grow their social media presence.

Well, most times it is for both reasons and of course there could be other reasons like showing off but that is between themselves and their creator. So for me personally, I always appreciate low key giving but then when I know that it’s possible to be generous and no one will think I’m showing off or try to repay me back for what I’ve given, I don’t mind giving openly. Whatever reasons you want to be kind to someone for, is what counts. If you are being generous because you want everyone to know that are a giver at the expense of making someone feel like a beggar then you are wrong.

So in a case when someone gives me money to pay my school fees and for some reason I hear someone else talk about it of which I’m very sure he or she wasn’t there, it only means one thing, the person has told him or her. Well, depending on how that person says it, I’d be able to know if my helper has said it in a way to say I’m a beggar or not. If it is the latter, then I’d be sad and I won’t want to take anything from that person again. So since I know I don’t like something like that, it is something I’d try my best not to do to others too.

In the end, it does matter how we give and the motive behind why we give. If we are giving to someone because we expect them to give us something back in return then we are only going to end up regretting why we gave to them. Doing something for someone so your colleague and friends can know you are a good person would be a waste because one day they will see who you truly are and it would be embarrassing trust me. So do good because you can and you want to. Don’t try to get something in return for well doing.

Even if those you were good to don’t appreciate you, in fact you should be happy because the one who sees your heart and knows you, will reward you in his own way. So if someone likes, they should do good works to get the reward from those they’ve done it to or someone else, it’s on them but I won’t advise anyone to do that because it only means you are getting their reward from them for being nice to them and that is not a genuine heart of kindness, so you won’t get a genuine reward too.

This is my response to the topic on ”FROM THE HEART” chosen for the first edition of this week in the hivelearners community.

The motive behind giving is everything. We can not read the heart most times, so it's really up to the giver to determine but one who looks on in secret rewards us according. Nice work

Goodness goes to miles. And it inspires people around the globe and also helps to learn a lesson that this world is the product of our acts and intentions.
