CONQUERING FEARS WITH KNOWLEDGE

People perish because they lack knowledge. Those were the words of a prophet of old to people at a certain age which I believe still applies to us today. A lot of times, as humans refuse or become rebellious about certain things and it’s totally obvious that we are that rebellious because we don’t even know what it is and it’s importance to us. Because of the fact that we don’t have a good knowledge of something, we automatically see that thing as wrong, infringement on our rights and even a form of judgement on us and trust us, we despise those things the most.

Since the invention of vaccines, we have always have a problem accepting it when it is newly developed. We always come up with different conspiracies just to avoid taking them but that is obviously the height of our ignorance. But yes, in as much as some of these conspiracies seems like the truth, we mostly manufacture them due to the fact that we know little or nothing of the importance of vaccination to humanity and even to our own selves. There are so many generally accepted conspiracies and theories we all have had at some point or even have now about vaccines.

For this week’s Hivelearners topic, we are asked to share some of the conspiracies we have had concerning vaccines. So without further ado, let’s talk about some of the craziest theories I have heard about getting vaccinated. If I remember correctly, as a child, we received a lot of vaccines which our parents didn’t fight against. They already understood the importance of those vaccines so they never prevented us from getting them. At some point when we even miss it, they find ways to make sure we get it. That is so because they already understood why those vaccines are important and I’m sure they have heard of a lot of death cases for children that didn’t take it.

But despite knowing how powerful and helpful some vaccines are, whenever a new vaccine is made available and people are encouraged to get it, you will hear things like, “Never! I’m not taking that vaccine, that’s how the government plan to bend us to their rules”. I’m not sure if you’ve heard this theory before but it is one of the major conspiracies why people struggle to get vaccinated. They think it is a way the government is trying to take control of their lives and the truth is, at some point I have also believed it might be true and that has stopped me from wanting to take some vaccines, particularly the coronavirus vaccine. So funny.

Another interesting theory some people have in mind that stops them from getting vaccinated is that vaccines are used to put a tracking device in their bodies, making it easy for the government to track them anywhere, thereby making their lives not private at all. It sounds like something that is possible and that has prevented a lot of persons from keying into taking vaccines because they don’t want to feel exposed all the time. This is obviously not how it is but I still won’t disregard the fact that it is possible and their fears are valid but then, it’s all still lack of knowledge.

There are many other conspiracies I have heard of and even formulated myself and these theories at some point has made me doubted whether or not I should take some vaccines. But over the years, the more I learn and understand what vaccines are and how they function, I know better that it is always good to make good use of the opportunity of becoming vaccinated when necessary. But yes, I won’t ever want to be the first person to get a newly developed vaccine except in the future I’m part of a team that develops one and I’m very sure of it’s effectiveness.
