A STUDENT’S ORDEAL

As a student and someone who works online, it’s always devastating to find my devices low. This is not a problem I encounter often but then, the moment I do, it feels like the worst time of my life. Usually, I’m always fortunate to find a way to get my devices charged but yesterday was different. I had to manage my phone’s battery through out the whole day just to make sure my phone doesn’t completely goes off. I had to reduce my phone’s activity. Since I had no classes yesterday, I spent that time sleeping, eating and reading a book, both school related and a self-help book.

It was fun doing all of those things at first but later, at night, it became evident that this struggle was real. I even felt like crying at some point so I did, hehe. After feeling sad about the whole situation for some minutes, I started singing and reminiscing on the good things I have been blessed with. After some minutes, I felt a lot better and I went inside my kitchen to do the dishes and warm the soup I prepared. After I was done in the kitchen, I went to quickly take my bath because my room was hot and I was already feeling irritated.

Immediately I was done with everything, I retired to bed and tried to use my remaining phone power to make my post for the next day so I won’t be completely stranded. It is not an experience I wish for anyone to be in but then, sometimes it’s just inevitable. Due to the kind of country I find myself in, it’s hard to plan with the electricity we are given every now and then. And as a student, without electricity, it’s hard to do a lot of things.

I will be having a class later today and my plan was to make a little research on the topic before the class so I won’t be completely lost but I’m worried I might not be able to do that. But then, I will make sure to take good notes on the topic so I can revise it when I get back home and hopefully by then, my devices will be charged and I can make more research on the course so I can fully grasp what I need to know about that course.

At some point yesterday, I felt really frustrated just thinking about the challenge I was facing and it made me miss home. I know if I was at home, it would have been a lot easier to find a solution to my problem because I could have just bought petrol to turn on the generator. It made me wish I had a generator here in school but then, that will be a lot of expensive for me and I will just have to manage with what I have now. It’s not going to be easy at all but like yesterday, in a time like that, I will try my best to just be grateful for the good things I have been given instead of wallowing in self pity.

I know of a lot of persons that go through this and even more but they are managing just fine, so I believe I even have an upper hand. I’m not going to let this situation get the worst of me, instead I will think of better things to do with myself just incase I experience something like this again in the future. And for starters, I plan to get a good torch light or a solar light so I can easily study even in a blackout. I won’t go for a rechargeable torch because it won’t serve me well enough in a situation like this and besides, I have devices that can serve as light for me as long as there is electricity but I have come to realize that it is just not enough.

So, my advice to any student out there who is also blogging or doing other important things online is to always prepare for days like this because sometimes it’s inevitable. And you don’t want to lose your mind in this kind of situation. Instead, see this as an opportunity to count your blessings and name them one by one. It worked really well for me so I hope it works for you too. Also, don’t forget that this is just a phase and it will pass sooner than you know it.

Thanks for reading through. ❤️

Electricity issues are very common in your country and I know how irritating it can be as I also experienced it in the past. At the end we are humans who can adapt in any kind of situation.

That’s right, Intishar. We are created in a way that we can always adapt and tolerate different situations we find ourselves.

Thanks for your encouragement. 🤗

Guy!! I feel your pain... Having a low battery can be so frustrating I won't lie. I always drop my power bank in pay charge so I won't have to suffer this electricity issue.
My own problem is that my school is in a secluded area so for me to be able to access the Internet, I have to go out of my house and into the mosquito den 😂 coz there's literally no network inside my house. That's the issue I've been facing here in my school. That's why I've not been too consistent coz sometimes it's so frustrating I end up crying 😂

For reall! Tuff! 😂🤲

As for leaving my power bank in a pay to charge shop, I just started it today and it seems like the way to go now, hehe.

Network connectivity is another huge problem guyyy! If it’s me I will just be crying everyday. 🤣

Sorry about the mosquitoes ehn. It is not easy to be a student at all. 🤲

It's definitely the way to go 100% oo or else your devices would be off all the time.

I cried the first time, but now I complain everyday. I stay outside with mosquitoes till 12 most days coz of network and it's not like it's stable oo, but it's manageable 😂

Omo! I can't count the number of times I have suffered because of this issue- you are aware of some of the stories. Guy, network and low battery have shown me shege. I have gotten used to to their peppery shege.😂 I have seen a lot o. I remember the time low battery and bad network threw me inside hot soup, stired me, fried me and cooked me all over again.

I remember when I was in 200 level- my devices were dead- my phones and power bank- I had just one then. It was during exam, and I had to find a way about it. But, I was relieved when we contributed money to fuel the hostel gen. Around 9pm, the generator suddenly made a loud crack and stopped working. I begged this generator to work oo, the silly thing did not answer me.

I went from one hostel to another, looking for where to charge. I even had to go to a hostel I had never entered before to. Those people yelled and insulted us (I ranted about it in the city.) I have seen Shege in this school.

I’m glad you spent your time doing some interesting things like reading a book, doing the dishes, thinking about the things you have been blessed with and singing… Hm. You didn't tell me you cried.

Whenever I find myself in this situation, it is either I read books, or go out to chat with my friends.

I'm sorry about the things that happened yesterday, love. The good thing about it is that it taught you a lesson; to plan ahead. Always prepare for days like this.

Thanks for sharing, love.

I see your plan was to make me laugh and it worked perfectly well. 😂😂😂 For real, you do deserve an award putting up with all those shege that network and electricity showed you.

Yeah, I cried. I wanted to tell you but it was nothing really and I don’t think you could have taken it as nothing. It would have only made you feel sad for me and I didn’t want you to be sad.

Yeah, I have learnt my lesson and hopefully this won’t happen again.

Thanks for reading through and leaving such a great comment, I enjoyed reading your comment, love. 🥰❤️

It's a big huddle always to encounter such a situation where you want to study or research and then you find out that there is no electricity for u thereby making things very difficult. Your advice is well noted so that students can prepare ahead in other to avoid such situations. Thank you for the advice

Yeah, it will be hard to study in a situation like that and that’s why we have to prepare well for situations like that.
