Kick-Round Coffeepot Mum
Teeter-totter in socked-feet
Nightgown spill, coffee cup.
My morning light this,
What'd you read last night?
What do you think?
Who'll you turn out to be?
Mum brews the coffee,
Still. Waiting, eager to hear,
What my answers will be.
A cinammon dab,
The changing of wind.
Ideas on the chocolate mint,
Coffee-table market that is me.
Are you off for a fresh pot?
Why don't I join you?
What's kickin' round, embryo-mine,
In that bang-clever head of yours?
Our morning coffee smells of afternoon,
And into eternity of the love that is.
There's nothing like coffee with Mum,
'Cause it's like coffee with me,
Or someone else I could yet be.
You take milk, I no longer do,
But it's alright, you smile,
Caffeinated turncoat, screw-back-cap.
'Cause whoever I'll be, I know
You'll still have coffee with me.
...
Coffee has been a tradition, in my home, for as long as I can remember. Countless mornings, I spent talking with my Mum, @ladyrebecca, over coffee about the books we were reading, ideas, politics, interests, analyzing dreams, or the occasional patching over of a row. As I stepped out alone into the world, coffee continued to be a tradition for me. One of my favorite memories, coming home while abroad, was preparing myself a cup, with a small chocolate on the side. And it was lovely, but not quite the same as sharing them with her. Coffee, to me, is so essentially my mother, that when I saw Cinnamon Cup Coffee's wonderful Mother's Day tribute contest, I couldn't help jumping in. Even though Mother's Day in Romania was two months ago. So Happy Mothers Day <3
The questioning nature of coffee with mom. All the togetherness and fun! You captured a coffee moment with your mom, beautifully ☕️☕️

Beautifully written reminiscence of moments shared with your mum, and the significance coffee has in your relationship.
Wonderful 🙌
Thanks, it was fun writing it! :)
Funny thing is I don't even remember a time when we didn't share a cup of coffee in the morning... I'm not even sure such a time ever existed...
Oh, yeah, there was such a time. When @honeydue was just a wee little girl she'd sometimes treat me to breakfast in bed on a Saturday morning. She'd make me a jam sandwich or whatever, present it to me on a nice plate and everything. I had to eat her carefully prepared treat and be very grateful, although I don't ever eat breakfast and all I wanted was my coffee... Thank God you grew up, kid!
Shush. I want jam now.

What a nice read @honeydue! So sorry I missed this prompt; my Mom was very particular about what coffee beans she used - dark roast, freshly ground, and made in a plunger, black with like 3 grains of sugar😉
Oh, and a rusk of course (similar to biscotti)
There's something so special about sharing that morning cup with someone special, like your Mom.
I read @ladyrebecca's comment, can just imagine little honeydue taking the jam sandwich to Mom, sweet 😍
<3 now I have a hankering for biscotti. Hey, it's never too late to write a post about coffees with her, Mother's Day, or no ;)
