Marciniak's incredible performance after punishing Barça against Inter.
Hi community!
The international referee will officiate a European final next weekend.
Just a few days ago, Szymon Marciniak was rumored to be the leading candidate to referee the Champions League final between PSG and Inter Milan. However, UEFA announced the match's selections on Monday, and the Pole's name was not on the list. However, he does appear in the selection of the refereeing team for another final.
Retired Dutch referee van der Ende insisted that the rule preventing a referee who officiated a semi-final from attending the final is an unwritten and regulated practice, so he gave Marciniak a free pass to be in the final.
However, it seems the Dutch referee didn't watch the second leg of the semi-final between Inter and FC Barcelona. Marciniak once again took center stage after several controversial decisions: he didn't signal Acerbi's handball inside the box, awarded a dubious penalty to the Italians committed by Cubarsí, disallowed a penalty against Lamine Yamal because he considered it to have been committed off the line, and didn't even flinch at the Barça's complaints about a previous foul by Dumfries in the equalizer.
UEFA announced the refereeing team for the Munich final on Monday, and the surprise result came when Marciniak wasn't among those selected. The governing body ultimately opted for Romanian István Kovács, who will be assisted on the touchlines by his compatriots Mihai Marica and Ferencz Tunyogi. Meanwhile, Dutchman Dennis Johan Higler will be in charge of video refereeing.
However, Szymon Marciniak will have his desired European final this season, although perhaps not the one he originally hoped for. The international referee has been chosen to officiate the Greek Cup final between OFI Crete and Olympiacos next Saturday, May 17, at 7 p.m.
See You soon!
