Dani Olmo earns a place in the starting eleven for the Cup final.
Hi community!
He scored a goal and won the decisive penalty in the comeback against Celta. He's all set to start against Madrid.
Barça signed him to be decisive, and he certainly is. Dani Olmo broke the deadlock against Celta Vigo when it seemed all was lost. He came on with the score at 1-3 alongside Lamine Yamal and managed to turn the score around. Olmo was decisive. He did a lot of damage to the opposition between the lines and devoured Celta's defense. He scored the 2-3 that brought the comeback closer at the most difficult moment and earned the penalty that made it 4-3 in stoppage time. There seems to be little doubt that he'll be back in the starting lineup in the Copa del Rey final against Madrid.
He hasn't had it easy this season. A few physical issues have kept him out of the team, and Flick has paced him carefully to try to prevent any relapses. The competition is fierce, and perhaps he's spent too many minutes out of the starting lineup. But he's one of the most decisive players in the squad. And his numbers make it clear: He's already scored nine goals and provided five assists in his matches this season. And that's despite having played less than many of his teammates.
Olmo is the perfect player for linking up, getting behind opponents, and, above all, finding space between the lines and between the center-backs. He's the best player Barça has in the squad there, and he knows how to take advantage of it. He's a top ten in tight games because he finds space where there isn't any.
At the end of the match, Dani Olmo himself explained what he was looking for when he came onto the field: "What I was looking for was more play and more calm. To link up with my teammates, with Pedri, with De Jong, with Gavi when he came on. I understand them very well, and the truth is that when we connect, everything works out. And it worked out well," he commented.
And he's clear that this is a vital victory to win the championship: "Nothing's been won, but there's no doubt these three points bring us much closer to our goal. We have to keep working, but we're on the right track. We didn't have the best first few minutes against Celta Vigo, but we knew how to come back and take the three points."
Now Flick will have to decide on Olmo. The first big match of the season is less than a week away, the final at La Caruja, and the international is already looking like he could establish himself in the starting eleven at the expense of Fermín, who is also in great form but could be left on the bench for this match. Olmo came to Barça to win titles and be decisive, and he's already achieving that. And once he's fit, he's sure to be one of the key players in our attempt to achieve the treble.
See You soon!
