Barça is clear on this: Lamine needs more bench.
Hi community!
The extreme will be dosed to avoid relapses due to "pubalgia".
Lamine Yamal is still not at 100%. Pubalgia is hindering his performance. He's not the game-changing player he was a few months ago or in previous seasons, but against Elche there was a clear improvement, and the coaching staff believes he's on the path to regaining his best form. The professionals know exactly what they need to do to get him shining again: they have to manage his playing time. He needs to spend more time on the bench.
"His injury needs to be managed. He has to train, have treatment... I can't say the injury is over; it comes and goes. And he has to manage it," Flick commented yesterday, Sunday, after the match against Elche. The winger scored a goal and once again stood out with some dribbles, stepovers, runs, and one-on-one situations... But he still wasn't the player he once was and was substituted shortly before the end of the match. He wanted to stay on the pitch because he was eager to score another goal, but he didn't play a single minute.
And that, precisely, is the key, according to Barça, to prevent Lamine from suffering a relapse of his pubalgia, or at least to minimize its impact, allowing him to improve his performance and remain in the team: managing his playing time. This means he won't play every match in its entirety, as he was accustomed to (last season, for example, he started in 58 of the 62 matches he played), and therefore, he must understand and accept being a substitute. Flick and the medical staff have explained to him that finishing matches on the bench is a fundamental part of his treatment, one of the most important, and that he must comply.
Since being cleared to play, he has only completed one of the last four matches, the Clásico at the Bernabéu, but he was substituted before the games against Girona, Olympiacos, and Elche. This could be the norm in the coming weeks. He is not expected to have any rest days from training, as Pau Cubarsí did last week, although everything will depend on his progress and how the striker from Rocafonda feels. For now, his condition is good; only if there is a setback would his training sessions be adjusted.
The club is confident that Lamine, 18, will accept this new situation because he is the most eager to recover his best form as soon as possible and is the one suffering from pubalgia. The club, which is also considering limiting his public appearances to allow him to rest physically and mentally away from the training ground, maintains that his behavior is always very professional and that the international player will understand the sacrifices his injury entails.
