What Makes A True Disciple Of Christ: MCGI Topic Review
Brother Eli explained what it really means to be a disciple of Christ. His emphasis on Matthew 28 19-20 and Acts 11 verse 26 has given us a clear understanding of discipleship as an active and committed process rather than just a passive labor.
So the main point to take away from here is that being a disciple of Christ is not merely about claiming the title of Christian but about living the life of Christ here on earth through obedience and life transformation.
One key thing to point out from this brother's early teaching is the sanctity of Christ's commandment and how it has shaped believers over time. *Matthew 28 19-20 he said, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you". Take note of the discipleship which involves two critical steps.
- Baptism
- Adherence to Christ' teaching.
First of all, baptism is the entry point. Baptism opens the door for you which symbolizes commitments that we have decided to follow Christ, but it is continuous learning and application of his teachings that truly define a disciple.
This truly resonates deeply because it challenges the notions the modern christians believe these days. So instead of calling it a lifestyle of discipline learning and obedience, it calls for used to be disciplined in your doings learning and obedience.
Brother Eli reference to Acts chapter 11 verse 26 where disciples were first called "christian" in "antioch". That is where the disciples showed them and being grounded in the doctrines of christ. They were into the process of being taught and transformed over time and this reminds us of what true discipleship is all about.
We hear the Greek term called "martitis" which means "learner or people" which first is the idea of discipleship in the life of christians. So what strikes me is the weight of responsibility that has been placed on disciples. That title, to be worthy of it, one must not only know the teachings of christ but to actively practice it.
While I was listening to this it made me to reflect as a believer on my own life. I started asking myself, am I actually observing all that christ has commanded?
This teachings is a call to self examine yourself, but it is a push to align all your actions as a christian close to the example that christ has given in a world where the term "christian" is often misinterpreted.
