Natural Disaster: Is there Any Remedy?
One of the very things I'm really grateful for is how secure and safe my country is in regards to natural and environmental safety, looking at this week's @scifimultiverse prompt about natural disaster got me raking my brains this is one thing I haven't really experienced first hand except what I've watched in the movies or seen in the news and I can imagine the broad day horror this persons go through....
This is one aspect of life we don't understand how blessed we are as a country to only hear the news of these natural disaster afar off, is it earthquakes, tsunami, fire, flooding ? Our topology is structured in a way such that we don't experience any of these, but that is not to say we haven't experienced some of such, however it's rarely occur, although at recent times I've heard of flooding in the northern state, were lots of properties were destroyed by the flood, houses, schools, hospitals where swept by the flood, it was a devastating site, right in a moment I can imagine the frustration these people are going through....
The flooding was so devastating it left many homeless, injured, killed, many had lost their source of income and are forced into a life of penury some unforeseen circumstance they never planned for, seeing families, father ,mother children swimming the dirty water trying to carry their little belongings on their head they could hold unto, not to think of the infections they will contact, how will they start all over, how will they survive, since everything is lost....
Natural disasters are very heart breaking and it's something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, come to think of it how can they recover from the heavy lost, where do they start from, most times they little support from the government will barely get to them, by the time officials have taken what they could despite having so much, it pained my heart what these IDP's go through...
Can one ever be prepared for what's coming ? How can they know or become aware and mostly since we in these part of the world do not really pay attention to whatever the environment says, the least we do is check the weather conditions but since it has little or no effect to us we don't really regard such information.
As I stated earlier that we are one blessed country in the surface of the earth, Good weather condition, favorable climate, comfortable environment that is perfect for life, supports our source of income and all round goodness.
However we have been careless as to how we handle our environment, for instances the only natural disaster we do experience is that of flooding and guess what that is caused by us, its either we are erecting building in water ways poor urban planning, using substantial materials for building drainage system, and in most cases these drainage are not properly done.
source
In other cases we block our drainage with waste, I have observed in my local area whenever it rains people will bring out their waste to empty them in the rain such as plastic, plastic bags etc now at the end of the day this will go on to block waters says and drainage system causing flooding in our cities and villages, however if we pay attention to our environment do the needful we won't experienced what's happening to us...

Exactly.
When I see images of damaged caused by natural disaster in other countries, I'm usually grateful to be a Nigerian. We definitely have our share of issues but compared to most countries, we are still lucky.
Swers bro 100%lucky
I just answered this in another post...I used to live in Brazil, and we use to say the same...we dont have earthquakes, hurricanes. But when we had rain we flood and landslides in poor communities that live in hills. Is that better? now I live in Canada I don't have flood anymore, I don't fear losing my car in a flood. But yeah there are tornadoes in here, I have never seen any tornado yet, but every year one or two cities around here get hit by one...it is like lottery, while floods in Rio it usually got all around the town
Wow. That's so good hear, I live in Nigeria and honestly speaking we have or rather I have never experience any sort of Natural disaster ...altho once in a while I hear flooding in other states in Nigeria... i guess we share same experience
Let's hope for the best, n please stay safe will you?
This is a thoughtful and well‑researched piece on remedies and preparedness around natural disasters. I especially appreciate how you highlight practical steps for individuals and communities—like stockpiling essential supplies, planning evacuation routes, and coordinating local relief efforts. Your emphasis on community resilience and mental well‑being adds real depth.
One minor point: you suggest that a single medication or intervention can universally protect against all disaster‑related health threats. In reality, different scenarios (e.g. floods versus earthquakes versus pandemics) require tailored responses. Perhaps you could briefly clarify which interventions apply in which situation to strengthen that guidance.
Overall, this article offers valuable guidance and shows your deep understanding. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so very much for these thoughtful comments I'm really glad you read between lines, however from my perspective and the minor natural disaster we have experienced in some part of our country the government officials here aren't helping... siphoning money meant for these IDP'S for their personal gains.... but then since what we experienced most times are mare flooding i think we should really look into the preventive measures of curbing it by taking good care of our environment n availing erecting structures in water ways and maintaining clean drainages
Natural disaster is something that damages life and properties, but thank God Nigeria, because have heard news about other countries outside Africa, it a different one. i only experienced flood in my area but i escaped
Ahhh God i l'd be devastated seeing my properties submerged in water....
Like we eeh we Nigerians don't know how blessed we are with our favorable environment...everything is just perfect here except for the floods ....
Absolutely, i will never wish natural disaster to my worst enemy. I hope that the preventive measures are being taken serious.
We are so blessed in this country but we rarely acknowledge it.... thankyou dear for stopping by
Thankyou very much
