How to deal with addiction in life? (Part 2 of 3) | The Old Path

We need to understand that the flesh always wants pleasure, and this pleasure in sin is very evident. Brother Eli likens a pleasure of the feeling to one who is drunk. The characteristics of a drunk include when you do not care for the world and you do not care what you are going to say. Explicitly, Brother Eli explains that talks of a drunk—

  • "I can say everything that I want to say."
  • "I will look at everything that I want to look at."
  • "I will touch everything that I want to touch," etc.

We go to the book of Proverbs 23:31,

Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

So, the feeling of the flesh is related to one that is drunk, and when you are drunk, you are intoxicated by wine or liquor. Reading Verse 34, the Bible says, “Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea.” Meaning: when you are drunk, you are just like someone in the waves of the sea, unstable and dizzy.

And in Verse 33, “Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.”
The eyes of the flesh will be looking at practically everything strange, not having control anymore in speaking or talking; just uttering perverse things, things that are not normal.

In summary, Brother Eli was teaching that the feeling of pleasure in the flesh is caused by alcoholism; in the book of Galatians 5:21

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

The word of God said very plainly “…drunkenness, revellings," that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. So we need to be mindful!

Flesh always wants pleasure, that's why we need the spirit of God to put it in check and control it.
