Do you know you too can SING? Let me show you how.
Hi friends, I'm glad to reconnect with y'all in this amazing community. Today, I wish to share with you one of the interesting things about music.
Do you know you can Sing? Let me show you how.
There is a feeling we get when we see people singing very well and you feel like you can do same but when you open your mouth you sound like a cat's meow, here's what you're missing. Music is a skill and like every skill you'll have to build it like a muscle and this will take time and practice, it won't come overnight but it will surely.
Speaking about this makes me remember where I was, in the singing spectrum, few days ago. Let me give you a back story before that. I am a person who loves to sing and love to sing well, besides that, I try to engage in singing by joining the choir from when I was a child, however, there was a controversy I faced each time I opened my mouth in public places either to speak or to sing, because of the texture of my voice, many would recommend that I should join the choir but in the choir when my jaw flips open the music director will quickly reach for his padlock to stop me from flooding the place with keyless notes.
This continued day after day and night after night of rehearsals, although my engagement in the choir waned but my love for singing never dwindled, as I continuously blow away non-professional singers and get my candle blown out by professional singing groups but one thing remained and that is my determination to sing and the state of my singing muscles.
Although I always sounded like a dragon's roar in the rehearsals, I never gave up as I took advantage of close friends who knew how to sing well, friends who were good with the piano, and any musical insight I could get to help me move up the ladder of excellence in music. Oftentimes, I will meet them in private and ask how I can get better at singing, many would recommend different things ranging from eating raw okro to drinking different weird elixirs until a met a music coach who changed everything.
Before I met him, I will sometimes, as a way of escaping the mockery and encouraging my efforts, take jabs of criticism with a swift reply of I am the 'King of the offkeys' but that beautiful Saturday morning changed everything. After nights of certain musical drills and lessons, he changed my mindset entirely, he took me and a couple of other students who had registered for this 3-day music training, to an open field where we engaged in a few exercises both physical and vocal then after other people of varying musical expertise have poured out their own style, I watched as Mr. Ephraim changed people's mindset about themselves, their singing abilities and that of others. As it was getting to my turn, I watched nervously as the queue was getting shorter and shorter till it got to my turn.
Still very nervous, shy and redfaced, I stepped forward to sing with a very obvious sweaty face and sweaty palm, suddenly he changed the focus of attention and started singing for while followed by a sharp pause and he told me to take some deep inhale and exhale then with his eyes closed he gave me a song that suit my perfect vocal range, one that let me express, a worship song, one that perfectly communicated my heart posture at the moment.
You see there is no magic other than this, you must give yourself to persistent practice, observe your errors, improve with the feedbacks, be enthusiastic about getting better, and always be out to express and just sing. You know 'the only way to get better at singing is to sing and the only way to get better at talking is to talk'.
The simple hack to singing well is Confidence in your voice and that's what I found that day but I never lost it, if I should lose it I will be quiet until I find again. Here's my word to you struggling with singing well or learning any skill, look for your comfortable vocal range, one that expresses your heart at that moment and do it as your heart moves you. This will not make you the best singer but it will do what you intend to do EXPRESS.

As a fellow singer, I approve this message -- there is much truth here! I add with it the saying, "Comparison is the thief of joy" for those wanting to sing -- one develops more confidence when internalizing the reality that no one can sing like YOU as well as YOU can, and there is room enough for the voices we admire and YOU TOO to be heard. Pursue sounding like the best YOU that YOU can -- confidence will grow and grow!
This is very true!
