Cooking African Soup for the First Time all alone
Hi friends!
I am glad to be here sharing my first cooking-soup experience. After the successful long academic journey that caused me to be far from the #hive community for a while, I am glad to share with you some stuff I have been learning in my small kitchen, lol.
Currently, I am serving my country in another man's land (that is, NYSC), and I am really missing home because back then at home, I tended not to do some domestic chores like cooking, seeing that I have a sister and a younger one. However, their absence has made me become more responsible.
I noticed I haven't been eating well because I cannot cook too well; I tend to eat junk here and there. So, I made up my mind to be intentional in my culinary skill (which is one of my new month resolutions). For this reason, I reached out to my mum to give me the tips and ingredients required to cook a sumptuous dish known as "ogbono soup."
The soup was mixed with okra, and through the guidance of my mom, I was able to buy what was necessary for the food; if you can see the above chat, she sternly warned me not to call anyone to assist me, lol, which I obeyed.
Below are the major ingredients I used for the food:
- Stockfish
- vegetable leaf
- goat meat
- onions
- pepper
- dried fish
- crayfish
- palm oil
- ogbonno
How did I prepare it?
Step 1:
I made sure all my recipes were individually prepared before adding them together.
First, I chopped my okra and vegetable leaves and kept them aside.
Thereafter, I steamed my goat meat using onion, salt, pepper, and Maggi; I boiled the stockfish too and kept it. Finally, in this stage, I ground my crayfish and pepper.
Step 2:
Time to prepare the meal now that the recipes are ready!
I dried the pot, making sure the pot was hot before adding my palm oil. I added onions to the hot oil, then put in the ogbono.
I made sure the ogbono was stirred while still on fire, and I added some water before putting in my ground crayfish that was mixed with fresh pepper. I added my proteins—dried fish and steamed meat.
Last step:
I put the last condiments—okra first and then the vegetable leaf. The okra stays on the fire for some minutes before including the vegetable leaf. With this, I stirred the pot, and in a few minutes the food was ready!
I made my garri (processed cassava) with hot water to eat with the prepared soup.
I was very happy that I made this all alone! I am becoming responsible, lol.
I am @hively; let us connect and grow together!
