Beyond Wealth: Understanding Holistic Prosperity as a Christian

As Christians, it is God’s plan that we live prosperously even as our souls do the same. However, how can we walk into this reality when we have no understanding about “prosperity?” Prosperity here covers our health, soul, and other well-being of our lives; one of the other aspects of our lives is the “financial aspect.”
Reference:

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. (3 John 1:2 NAS)

In the area of finance we sometimes feel that God is not interested in how we spend or earn our living; surprisingly, He is interested in every facet of life (Remember He said, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11) His thoughts are far better than ours, so it is best we rest on His unwavering promises. While doing so, we need to submit our plans—spending, earning, et al.—to Him in order to be in line with His purpose for our lives.

Why do we need to submit our financial budgets to Him?

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. (Romans 12:1)

To offer “your body” encompasses everything that defines your existence on earth; the way you eat, dress, walk, talk, spend, etc., defines your body, and it is expected to be a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. God needs to be pleased with the way you spend your money. He gave you the strength, reasoning, and ability to make wealth; therefore, we need to submit under His deeds and principles.

Unfortunately, this is the hardest thing to do. As a writer, I have fallen victim several times because I narrowed myself to the situation around me instead of trusting in God.

Call to Action:

As a salary earner or entrepreneur (daily or weekly earner), one of the ways to please God is to listen to His instruction on what He would do with your finance. It demands FAITH, as rightly said—without Faith, it is impossible to please God. Believe that when you submit to Him your future is secured and running smoothly. The beginning may be tough but it will yield fruit of abundance when you completely obey His commandments.
