![]() Community: The Ink Well | The kitchen felt very small and suffocating to Mara. Five individuals were gathered closely beside each other at her little oak table, and none of them were looking at each other. On top of that the rain was pounding on the windows creating a depressing atmosphere that was now even more suffocating. “Let’s just get this over with,” Dale broke the silence since they had made up their minds ... |
![]() Community: The Ink Well | The town of Owara is popular in the eastern part of Nigeria for its dreadful tradition of discovering the paternity of the male child in the town. Every year, there is a tradition called the "sacred draw", where all the male children in the town from each family will contest picking a straw, and anyone who picks the shortest straw will be sent into the Kala forest for 24 hours to be tested by their ancestors. If the male child is the legitimate son of the family he came from, he will be released by the genie to return home, but if not, he will not be seen ever again. This was their tradition used in correcting promiscuous women who cheat in their marriage, and it has been in existence since the days of their first ancestors ... |
![]() Community: The Ink Well | Tonye imagined herself standing on the red carpet with the interviewer asking, “What does freedom look like to you? ” Her straight out of the box answer would be: “Full control of the TV remote and sleeping till noon without anyone yelling my name like a town crier”. And so when her parents announced that there was a trip to the village for the long holiday, Tonye never batted an eyelid when she vehemently refused to join the party with the words: “Nah, I’ll pass. I really need rest please and only the City can give me that” ... |

![]() Community: Worldmappin | Walking through historical landmarks that impacted Philippine history provides a strong connection to your heritage and respect for the sacrifices made for freedom and identity. There's also the thrill of uncovering stories that textbooks can't quite capture—real lives, struggles, and successes. Last summer, my colleagues and I had the great opportunity to visit the Malacañang of the North in Ilocos. Visiting the Malacañang of the North in Ilocos is reminiscent of a preserved moment in Philippine political history, creating a nostalgic and unusual experience ... |

Community: Ladies of Hive | Vibrant Shifting Colors With Graceful Flight We have experienced Inclement Weather of late from bright sunshine, followed by wind then rains, rain tends to be disruptive of late, no more so than life itself. I suppose we look at life slightly differently, yet hanker back, songs that held meaning, words carry feelings of joy or sorrow depending how one looks at life. My first paycheck at the tender age of sixteen I bought LP Teaser and the Firecat, to me a positive song that hangs around in memories rejoicing first morning light.
