City Of Refuge
God is faithful. His faithfulness endures forever more.
Good day all. I am here this day to encourage us from the book of Joshua chapter 20.
Joshua chapter 20 has only nine verses. It describes the provisions of cities for refugees, as instructed by the Lord to Joshua. These cities provided place of living for those or individual who had accidentally killed someone. The place will be a place of protection for them to be protected from those who want to avenge of blood they shaded.
These cities are six in number that are designated for this purpose. They are, Kedesh, Shechem, Hebron, Bezer, Ramoth, and Golan. Everyone is allowed into these places . Both Israelites and foreigners living among them. The reason is to ensure that justice was served fairly without unnecessary bloodshed.
Those who are found in these cities would stay there until they stood trial before they could return to their own city.
Lesson from today's reading.
It shows the importance of mercy and due process within the communities. It is also expected of us to follow due process in everything we do.
We are also called to show mercy and temper justice with mercy. We must listen to instructions just like Joshua did.
