The Careca hill is the postcard of Ponta Negra beach in the city of Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), measuring approximately 110 meters high, it got its name because it highlights the image of a bald man when seen from the far. In addition to the large strip of sand, it has beautiful vegetation that outlines the contours of its landscape.
In the mid-90s, the place became famous for the sport known as skibunda, where people went down in a radical way. Today, there is continuous inspection and surveillance to prevent people from climbing or trying to descend the hill, the main reasons are related to environmental preservation and the number of accidents during extreme descents without protection.
The entire area surrounding Morro do Careca became an environmental protection zone and its magnitude was transformed into a "painting", where we can only observe and appreciate it from afar. Tourism in the area is predominant, there are hotels, restaurants and places dedicated to the public to make this postcard something unforgettable.
The Morro is much appreciated by tourists and, knowing that Natal would be one of the host cities for the 2014 World Cup, government officials considered the possibility of reopening access to the public, something that was opposed by environmentalists. There were countless ideas on how to take advantage of the area, but none of them came to fruition and it remains unavailable to this day.
In front of its beauty, we have Ponta Negra Beach, a place with yellowish sand, clear waters and choppy waves that surfers can enjoy. The area close to Morro do Careca is calm, excellent for family groups, it is a very long beach, there is the possibility of enjoying and taking advantage of the local cuisine and the various sports and excursions present in the region.
There are few reports about what exists behind Morro do Careca, there is no land access to the place, but if you hire a boatman, you can discover that there is a deserted strip of sand and a beach without any tourist facilities called Praia das Tartarugas, a place that is said to be paradisiacal.
