Hi everyone!

Today, I wanted to tell you about my recent visit to "Lalla Aouda" square, a place that radiates life and authenticity, where I was lucky enough to spend a memorable moment.

As soon as I passed through the historic double door, I felt transported to another time. It’s incredible how this place preserves all its beauty and charm. The grand majestic doors, witnesses of the city's history, made me reflect on the glorious past of Meknès.

Once I crossed that impressive entrance, I found myself in the large square, so lively and bustling. I took my time to walk around it, observing every detail, every corner. Each angle had something unique to offer, whether it was the old architecture or the little moments of daily life from the passersby.

After this stroll around the square, I decided to take a short break in the nearby small garden. I sat down on a bench, taking a moment to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Right in front of me, I saw several "coucchi", those horse-drawn carriages that take tourists through the medina, allowing visitors to discover it at a relaxed and authentic pace.

After this well-deserved break, I continued on my way and passed by the Mausoleum of "Moulay Ismail", a place full of history and mysticism. Even though I didn’t go inside this time, just walking by always gives me a feeling of standing before a monument of respect and grandeur.

A meeting with German tourists 😊

As I was heading toward a shaded spot to sit down, I overheard someone speaking German, a language I love to listen to even though I don’t fully understand it. As I got closer, I saw a small group of four people, clearly tourists. They looked a little lost, talking among themselves and glancing around as if they were searching for something. I asked them if everything was okay! "Hallo! Alles gut?" I said with a smile.

They were a bit surprised to hear me speak a few words in German. One of them, responded to me in English, a bit hesitantly: "Yes, we are fine, but... we are a bit lost."

It was their first visit to Meknès, and they wanted to see all the historical sites, including the famous "Lalla Aouda" square, but they didn’t know where to start. I offered to guide them, and that’s where our little adventure began!

We first walked around the square, where I shared some local stories I had heard while growing up. After that, I told them about the famous "Bab Mansour" gate, which wasn’t far away. They were eager to see it, so we continued our walk towards that majestic gate. Along the way, we took a short break to taste some fresh dates and almonds I had bought from a vendor in the square. The Germans loved it!

It was truly a beautiful memory. Sharing a piece of my history and the culture of my city with people from elsewhere is what I love about these kinds of encounters. I left them with a smile, thinking that this day would remain etched in their memory.

This little outing really did me good. "Lalla Aouda" remains a must-see spot for anyone visiting Meknès. If you ever go there, I highly recommend taking a moment to sit in that small garden and watch the "coucchi" come and go, it’s a simple, yet so soothing, experience.

Thank you for taking the time to read my article, and I’ll see you very soon for a new post where I’ll share another discovery of the city of Meknès and its surroundings before later moving on to all the magical and touristic places across Morocco.

See you soon!
