A Beach Birthday for Papa, Our First Out-of-Town Family Bonding, Eating, Swimming and Picture Taking
My father’s birthday was always celebrated in the simplest way just what’s there, and that’s okay. “Okay na ni,” (this is enough) he’d say and we continue life like it was just another day. Papa has always been that kind of man, content with whatever is available, never one to ask for more.
But last year, on his 56th birthday, my sister and I knew it was time to do something different. Now life has been a little kinder and we’ve both landed better-paying jobs, we felt it was only right to honor our father’s quiet hard work through something a little more special.
So, instead of the usual celebration at home, we decided to bring the celebration to the beach. We planned ahead, rented a van, booked an accommodation, and made sure everything was set for a smooth, and enjoyable travel. It was our way of showing Papa how much we truly appreciate him, not just in words, but in action.
When we got to the resort, we immediately prepared our food for lunch so we could immediately enjoy the sea.
While we’re at it, my sister-in-law accompanied my daughter who really wanted to swim already. She even asked us to buy her a floater, which we granted of course.
In the afternoon, the heat got a little intense, so my daughter asked for ice cream. We gave in, of course.
We took photos, mostly group shots, because Papa is shy and doesn’t like posing solo.
During the night papa and mama went to sleep early because they felt cold from the swimming earlier and the temperature is kinda really cold. We on the other hand because the tide was too high and the sea looked rough opted for a night swim in the pool instead. Honestly, that felt like magic, cool water, laughter, and family.
The next morning, I woke up early and took a moment for myself by the sea. The sunrise was breathtaking, the kind that makes you stop and just be still. I asked my sister to take a photo of me.
Mama, on the other hand, was having her own fun, posing with the resort’s animal statues and my sister is her photographer, lol. It was nice seeing them so playful and carefree.
Though Papa stayed in the background, his happiness was evident. And that made everything worth it.
We hope for more moments like this, more laughter, shared meals, and more reasons to celebrate the people we love the most. ‘Til next time!
