Here's my entry for the BeerSaturday 311 with a cool and light beer, Saison Libre, from the Quebec brewery Unibroue, perfect to enjoy the sunny days. Summer is slowly settling in Quebec, although last week the rain made a comeback (in some ways it's a good thing, with the fires that ravaged the forests further north).

Voici ma participation au BeerSaturday 311 avec une bière de la brasserie québécoise Unibroue pour bien commencer l'été, fraiche et légère, la Saison Libre. L'été s'installe tranquillement au Québec, bien que la semaine passée la pluie a fait son retour (d'un côté tant mieux avec les feux qui ont ravagé les forêts plus au nord).

Here's a map of Quebec where I can show you exactly where the brewery is located. We're back east of Montreal, in the immediate suburbs, in the town of Chambly, a historic town with its fort, canal and brewery Unibroue.

Saison Libre (Uniibroue)

📜 Brewery / Brasserie :

Unibroue was founded in 1990 by Serge Racine and André Dion with the idea of making Belgian-inspired beers refermented in bottles (750 ml bottles corked), a first in Canada. Thanks to Belgian brewer Gino Vantieghem, the brewery launched Blanche de Chambly in 1991, which is still on sale. In 1992, the brewery teamed up with singer Robert Charlebois, who handled the advertising. Another success... In the 90s, Unibroue even exports its beers to Europe. In 2004, it was bought by Sleeman for just over US$36 million, and 2 years later by Sapporo. It's no longer a microbrewery, but it has set the trend for microbreweries in Quebec.

Grâce au brasseur belge Gino Vantieghem, la brasserie lance la Blanche de Chambly en 1991, toujours en vente. En 1992, la brasserie s'associe avec le chanteur Robert Charlebois qui assure la publicité. Encore un succès... Dans les années 90, Unibroue exporte même en Europe ses bières. En 2004 elle est rachetée par Sleeman pour un peu plus de 36 millions de $US qui sera rachetée par Sapporo 2 ans plus tard. Ce n'est plus une microbrasserie maintenant mais elle a ouvert à la mode des microbrasserie au Québec.

🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :

Saison Libre** is a Belgian saison-style blonde ale with 4% alcohol and an IBU of 25. In the glass, we find a pretty straw color with a rather intense white head. The taste is slightly citrusy. Perfect for summer, light and refreshing as I said in the introduction.

La Saison Libre est une bière belge blonde de style saison avec 4% d'alcool et un IBU de 25. Dans le verre on retrouve une jolie couleur de paille assez trouble avec une mousse blanche assez intense. Au gout, nous avons un léger gout d'agrume. Parfaite pour l'été, légère et rafraichissante comme je le disais en introduction.

Design

This design takes us back to the carefree 70s. Not original, but effective. / FR : Avec ce design, on se sent replonger dans les années 70 en pleine insouciance. Pas d'originalité mais c'est efficace.
