A Daily Word in French (#1)

In today's lesson we are not just gonna focus on a single word but we are going to learn the usefulness of this versatile French expression which is very popular, C'EST LA VIE.
It is actually very simple to read and pronounce as well as to write, the only exception from english in writing will be the (') sign which joins the letter C and EST together, i will explain why that is. originally the C came from CE meaning IT depending on the context and then we have EST meaning IS, so if you are to say IT IS you have to combine both which looks like.. CE + EST = C'EST. The double E becomes ' and it is pronounced as one syllable "se" the T is silent because in French we do not pronounce the last letter except there is an exception.
C'EST LA VIE, we use this expression to mean such is life, that's life, it is a very beginner friendly expression that is practical and very easy to remember, thiis expression will also show you a bit of how the French think not just how they sound. When we use this expression it means that we accept whatever has happened without defeat, we use it when something goes wrong but we do not feel emotional. Actually french meanings are ery deeper than the literal translation because unlike a borrowed english language french is cultural centered. Saying C'EST LA VIE does not mean resignation, laziness or giving up but it is simply acceptance without collapsing emotionally, you just acknowledge the situation without being dramatized.

For example
you miss a train = C'EST LA VIE
The weather ruins your plans = C’est la vie.
Something you hoped for does not work out =C’est la vie.
Not because the situation does not matter but because your peace matters more.
This expression teaches something subtle. That not every moment requires resistance. That some outcomes do not need emotional negotiation. That life continues whether we argue with it or not.
Learning small expressions like this is not just about language. It is about mindset. About how cultures train themselves to respond to inconvenience, disappointment, and change.
Sometimes the most useful lessons are the simplest ones.
C’est la vie!
