Over the years, I have in one way or the other experience growth and development in this small community that I live in. When I first came to this town with my parents the environment was basically occupied by natural Elements and by these I mean big trees, nature paths, streams, vegetable gardens, farms and so on. But as I speak to you, most of these natural Elements has been cut down just because development is taking over and people are erecting buildings so as to own properties for personal and commercial use.

Back then as kids, we will have fun and play games. I remember when my brother and I lost our football, we had to result to using unripe oranges or lime fruits to play games. Like I mentioned earlier, there were lots and lots of trees that bore fruits that were consumable by human beings, for instance we had different species of mango tree, guava tree, coconut tree, cashew tree, Orange Tree and so on. There was something about mango trees as a child that we enjoyed the most especially as a group and this involved throwing of sticks or wood to pluck mangoes right from the top of a tree. Sometimes, this game is all about who can pluck more mangoes and the other person just by throwing sticks.

Looking back at 20 to 25 years ago now, a lot has changed especially in the area of green vegetation and natural environment which we were used to, has been taken over by houses and structures. From the pictures I am going to show you, it will reflect how a community that once used to be serenaded by bushes has now become an open space that allows for civilization and development to grow.

In my opinion, one thing I have noticed about civilization and development in communities or even in cities is the fact that they do not employ rigorous planning before allocating lands to people to build upon. In view of this mistake, that has happened especially in my country the congestion of buildings has made it difficult to commune with nature. The heat is so much and this is due to the fact that houses is specially storey buildings are built side by side, hence ventilation is almost impossible.

In conclusion, I believe that although things are out of hands now but in the future the government or real estate developers can put the consideration of allowing natural Elements to coexist with human beings and structures.
