NEVER TO IGNORE MY CHILD'S COMPLAINTS

Children are a gift from God, hence should be treated appropriately and raised right in the values and beliefs of their guardians or parents. How a child is raised is dependent on his or her environment and it's varies regarding the culture , religion and the person's involved. As a Nigerian, a child raised in Igbo land would exhibit characters different from a child brought up in a yourbas culture, hausa culture or benin culture. For instance, a child raised through the Yoruba culture would always kneel down to greet elders as a lady, and a boy would always prostrate to greet elders.
Although, I do not have children yet but with experiences I have gathered from my parents and my environment, there are one or two habits I would love to inculcate in them. Raising children is not something you can actually know before hand because you do not know the kind of person or character or the personality traits they are going to have, the child could be gentle, stubborn, introverted or extroverted, assertive, shy, adventurous, cautious, open, resilient and so on. So handling these kind of children is not something written in a book somewhere, rather it requires efforts to study their developmental stages and interact with them.
I am not an advocate of violence, so if and when I'll raise children, I would never flog them like thieves and criminals as it is common or as we see on social media. These days we see parents discipline their children like they were not the one that gave birth to them. Not that I would spare the rod and spoil the child but there is a limit to everything, these days deep counseling is as important in training a child in the right path, it's not all about beating. One time I head a young boy say "after all na flogging go end am". Some parents or guardians can be so brutal in discipline a child that they end up inflicting eternal harm on the child. Some put pepper in the vagina of their girls, some flog with koboko, they lock up some children for days and so many wrong ways. Discipline should be done in a caring and loving manner.
Again, when if and when I raise children, I will never ignore my child's complaints. In our contemporary world, parents seems to dismiss some child's statement and complaints either because they cannot communicate properly or that regard them less. Some children get scared at the slightest provocation or attack, it's my duty as a parent to guide him or her to tackle their fears and face them rather than ignore it. Yesterday, I was watching a movie on YouTube, a young boy was living with his parents in their home but the mum was a workaholic and always busy but loves him, apparently the father was touching the boy inappropriately, at first nothing was happening and the boy spoke to his mum about it, but the mother flared up and said his father could touch him to play with him. It got so bad until the lady walked in to the act one day, then it dawned on her. The had already been done as the boy a phobia called HAPHEPHOBIA, an intense irritation to touch.
There are many more but these are the most important for now, I intend to show love, care and protection to my children within my power and bring them up to be good citizens of the country and to us the parents.
