Hygiene and sanitation are fundamental topics that cannot be avoided in any part of the world especially if we want to survive and live healthy without complications. One thing I am happy about is the fact that there are different seminars and awareness for the symptoms, causes, and treatment of diseases.
NGOs and concerned Nigerians have taken it upon themselves to educate people on the need to employ good hygiene and sanitation, the clause that says "cleanliness is next to godliness" is one that goes to show that if people practice good hygiene we would be free from certain diseases and would not even have to visit a hospital for treatment.
As a matter of fact, I would like to use this opportunity to create awareness and educate some people who are ignorant of the common health hazard that is currently rampant especially in our homes. Recently, awareness has started growing on a type of fungus called Mold.
Mold grows in environments that are warm, dump and humid. This is why it is good to always inspect you environment especially the houses we live in, Mold appears to be like dark patches on the wall. We may see them as harmless or just a reaction because it is a wet space but it can cause serious health hazards.
You would notice that you fall sick regularly and your immune system is compromised, this is basically the effect of mold in your surroundings. These can cause serious health hazard for people with allergies or asthma. Note that the fungus mold are commonly found indoors such as walls, basement, kitchens, ceilings, bathroom and so on.
Based on my research, there are certain hygiene practices we can put in place to prevent the growth of these deadly health hazard called mood. Some of these include the use of dehumidifiers in damp areas and also ensure that there is good ventilation across rooms such as bathroom and kitchens. It is also advisable to fix any kinds of leaks in the house that could make the place wet for a long time such as roofs, windows, pipes etc.
Common symptoms of mold includes, Sneezing, Runny or stuffy nose, Red, itchy, or watery eyes, Skin rashes, coughing, wheezing, Respiratory Problems, Shortness of breath, Chest tightness, Persistent coughing, Increased asthma and so many more.
In conclusion, there has been a lot of videos on the internet where people post their before and after health conditions living in space is that are infected with mold. In other words, it is advisable that when you want to rent an apartment you should scan the entire area to prevent such health conditions. Also be careful to know that some dubious landlords can cover up these fungus by painting them these would not hold up for long as they would resurface.
