FIXING OF MINOR ISSUES AROUND THE HOME IS COST EFFECTIVE

The situation of our economy and the issues of money in my country Nigeria is one that has helped Nigerians to be able to partake in different activities without having to pay for services by themselves, for instance household problems can be solved by the individual without having to spend so much money in calling a professional especially when it can be handled at home. These days when you take all the problems outside you end up spending more than accounted for. And this is so bad because the prices of instruments has gone up so people have also increased their handwork labor. Recently when we had an issue with plumbing, the plumber charged us a ridiculous amount and then we figure it out as a family and now things are working perfectly well.

Although, there are major areas in the house that requires a professional such as electrical works, installations and so on, but nevertheless, it is a great deal for individuals to be able to fix minor issues around the house. When we first got the apartment we are living in, some of the doors were either broken or the nails could not hold them well. it was a minor issue which did not require a company to fix because all that was needed was to fix the hinges with nails and it was back to normal. So with the basic necessities and tools in place such as hammers, nails, drilling machines and so on came in handy and got the work done.

As I do not have the picture of the before situation of the door, the image above is evidence of the fact that the door has been made properly to the wall and this was made possible by using normal equipment like hammer and sizeable nails. So we could imagine spending 5,000 naira or 10,000 naira to get that done it will totally be a waste of resources and income.

Also another major fixing we did in the house by ourselves was the equipment used to hold the curtains together. Why we first got to the house most gadgets were worn out or badly shaped but we had to come up with ideas to get them done by ourselves without the requirements of professionals in the field. So all that was required was some small nails to put the small handle in place that will hold the curtain ring.

Picture of what I meant by a cotton handle and when we did it for all the windows in the house with became perfect and suitable for use.

In Conclusion, to realize that not everything has to be taken to a professional there are many things I have learned and I'm still learning to be able to carry them out on my own for instance I learned how to sew which has helped me to fix or mend torn clothes, sew materials perfectly well. Areas where I can fix problems in the house includes using a plunger for clogged drains, tightening of screws, adding lubricant to doves or screws and so on.
