A lot of transformation and advancement has taken place in the 21st century, it is the case of all Things Have Become new and a lot of things have changed, to accommodate and ensure that people live a life that is secured. The question of Human Rights in the 21st Century is one that is faced with challenges both in the protection and the Promotion of Human Rights locally and Internationally. Naturaly, the human rights is one that is supposed to protect the Citizens in every ramification while some people uphold these rights others are still be trampled upon and are denied their basic human rights.

Some fundamental human rights that are internationally accepted for Civil and Political Rights includes:
Right to life, Freedom of speech,Freedom of religion, Right to privacy, Right to vote,Freedom of assembly, freedom of torture, right to education, health, work, free trial, adequate housing, food and water, social security, peace and so on. While these are the acclaimed human rights of the Nigerian citizens, people still violate some of these listed rights. For instance, in the country it is stated that we have the freedom of speech and press but in our contemporary world when people use the social media to air their grievance and disappointment in their country or government, they tend to face harassment and violence from the same government who is supposed to be protecting the life and properties of its citizen. Recently, people face threat to life because of statement they made on different social media platforms. One time an actress who had the backings of the president, arrested a young lady who came out on social media to discuss some certain matters about her.

Also, in the area of life and security, the Nigerian rights has been trampled upon in various ways. insecurity has become a dominant factor that affects basically every state in the country. The insurgence of the boko Haram has made insecurity become a major issue in every state. Also, the consistent violence that the fulani Herdsmen are perpetrating in every state is one that tramples on the right to life and security of Nigerians. In this country everyone lives for themselves and protect themselves as they can in every way because the government has abandon its job to protect the Citizens from dangers.

In conclusion, some of the major challenges to the sustenance of human rights in Nigeria can betrayed to corruption insecurity corrupt judicial system cultural and religious barrier.
