APRIL FOOL’S PRANK GONE WRONG

April fool's Day is an unofficial event that takes place on the first day of April every year. I really do not know the history behind the term "April fools" day but it is something that has become a norm in various countries especially in my country in Nigeria. On this day, people play pranks on their friends, colleagues, students, children, families, etc. And when the prank is successful they shout April Fool meaning they fooled you and they won.

Ever since I became aware of this trend, the only fools day that I see as insensitive was when a young woman pranked her husband of being pregnant when she was not. Apparently, the family has been trying to conceive for a while and when she told her husband he was very excited only for him to be disappointed when she claimed it was April fool prank. It was so devastating to the extent that it caused problems between the couples, but for the intervention of both families they were able to settle and warn the lady against such insensitive pranks.

The most recent one I experienced was about a fake promotion prank that a boss in collaboration with other workers played against his employee. Somehow I begin wonder that when people wants to you play pranks, they take it too far and end up jeopardizing their victims future in the process. So on this first day of the month of April, employees reported to their duty place as usual. This guy expected nothing and also suspected nothing unusual to happen on that day but when his boss called him privately into his office to break the news of his getting a promotion, he was shocked and surprised at the same time but he was elated because it has been long overdue. During the cause of celebration, the employee who was having difficulties managing his side job alongside his full-time job decided to terminate his side job because promotion meant increase in salary. Some few minutes after he got called back into the boss's office only to find out that it was just a prank that everyone in conjunction with the boss decided to pull on him. It wasn't a funny situation at all as he had made a drastic decision already that has tampered with his source of living. He was really angry at everyone for joking with such an important matter. The organization were sorry about the whole thing and after some months granted him his rightful promotion which he deserved.

In conclusion, I do advise people to be careful with the kind of pranks they play on others while you may think it just a game, they might take it seriously and when this turns out to be unserious, it could affect them mentally and emotionally.
