The Fascinating Beauty of Golden Mystery Snails (With Video)

Greetings Hive!

Today I will introduce to you a fascinating, weird and rather beautiful creature known as a golden mystery snail (also apple snail) (Pomacea bridgesii)

These snails not only look very cool with their brightly coloured shells, but they are also very interesting. They grow quite large (up to about the size of half a golf ball) They are also very active and can breathe above water with a snorkel like apparatus called a siphon. This makes sitting and watching them an absolute delight.

The snails are also rather useful as they are scavengers and will keep your tank very clean of algae, leftover fish food and pretty much anything else.

Golden mystery snails lay between 100-200 eggs which can result in a lot of new snails! I was very confused when I found these under the top cover of my fish tank, but after a good old reverse image search, I was very happy to find out that there would soon be more as I only had two at the time.

The newly hatched little snails grew extremely fast and soon I had a whole tank full of them. They seem very happy and healthy which, according to my research is an indicator of good water quality in the tank. Very cool little creatures.

Well that's it for today, thanks for reading!

Till next time!
