Sketchbook 052 - The Evolution Of Emotion
Greetings Hive
Sometimes an unplanned doodle, left to take on a life of its own can become something very interesting. This was one of those, competed over a week or more, with a wide range of emotions and thought going into and influencing the final thing.
Just a doodle created on a miserable day, there is something very calming about drawing the hair detail.
The darkness had lifted but the drawing was not abandoned, something about the pose and the way the hands actually looked good for once had me motivated to not discard this on the 'probably going to end up on the bin' collection.
Using harsher less organic looking shading and cross hatching techniques for this made sense as, to my mind, it added a hint of drama and pain to the sketch. It was complete enough as is at this stage but I found it rather uninteresting.
Wings have a very deep meaning but also just make everything look cooler. Often I can spend many hours doing intricate details and painstakingly drawing out and shading each individual feather but for this, simpler was better. At this stage it conjured images of death and remembrance in my mind. A nice enough artwork, but I felt it needed something to change the whole vibe and mood.
No amount of touch ups could get the colours to show true. (that might be the screen though) The final artwork is very much the kind of thing I like and like to do. I would not mind using it somewhere. I like it well enough.
Well that's it for today, till next time.
