There are stories that come to you with moderate expectations, books that you think you're going to like...but end up completely disarming you. That happened to me with Life's Too Short by Abby Jimenez. I didn't just like it, I LOVED it, to the point where I couldn't stop thinking about it days after I finished it.

The funny thing is, I didn't even know the author before this book. I discovered it through a cute fanart and my reader instinct screamed: I HAVE TO READ IT. And obviously I wasn't wrong.

The synopsis is already enough to grab you, so instead of summarizing it, I'd better leave it here:

Synopsis

When Vanessa Price quit her job to pursue her dream of traveling the world, she didn't expect to gain millions of YouTube followers who would share her joy of seizing every moment.
For her, LIVE EVERY DAY TO THE MAX is not just a motto. Her mom and sister never made it to 30, and Vanessa doesn't want to take anything for granted.

But after her sister suddenly leaves Vanessa in custody to her newborn baby, life goes from being an "everyday adventure" to being "bad to the next level" (now with extra baby vomit in her hair).

The last person Vanessa expects to show up offering her help is the handsome lawyer next door, Adrian Copeland. After all, she barely knows him.
No one warned her that he was the SECRET BABY DOMINATOR or that she'd be spending a lot of time with him and his geriatric chihuahua. Now she feels things she swore she wouldn't feel. Because the only thing worse than falling in love with Adrian is finding a little hope for a future she may never see.

Vanessa is a woman who has managed to build a life she loves. She travels, gets to know the world, cultures and people, documents absolutely everything and shares it with Fran's Youtube community and, despite having a family that constantly drags her into chaos, she has found a way to be free. But everything changes when overnight she has to take care of a baby girl.

A baby changes everything. And if you've never cared for one, it can feel like a slow-motion catastrophe.

That's when Adrian, the perfect neighbor at the perfect time, shows up. A lawyer with a heart of gold and an unexpected talent for soothing babies. His presence in Vanessa's life not only brings support, but also opens the door to something she had long ago closed off: the possibility of loving and being loved.

This book hit me hard. I saw myself reflected in Vanessa in so many ways that it became uncomfortable. That feeling of being the one who always "fixes" things, the one who has to be strong when no one else is, the burden of carrying the mistakes of others... It's exhausting. And Abby Jimenez portrays it with a rawness and sincerity that hurts.

But what made me reflect the most was the central question of the book: What would you do if you knew your time was limited?

Vanessa has grown up with the fear of not reaching 30. Life for her is not just an accumulation of experiences, but a countdown. And yet, there is Adrian, willing to stay, to take a risk, to be her home, even if the end is uncertain.

The relationship between them builds so naturally, so beautifully, that you can't help but fall in love with them. It's not just romance, it's companionship, support, tenderness, and the kind of love that sticks around even when everything seems to be going against it.

And, being honest, there's something incredibly attractive about a man who's good with children. I don't know what kind of primal instinct kicks in, but wow.

This book gave me EVERYTHING: drama, romance, funny moments, deep reflections, and an ending that left me with a happy, little heart.

If you're looking for a story that makes you laugh, cry, and think about the choices we make in life, Life's Too Short is for you.

Hay historias que llegan a ti con expectativas moderadas, libros que crees que te van a gustar… pero que terminan por desarmarte completamente. Eso me pasó con Life’s Too Short de Abby Jiménez. No solo me gustó, sino que me ENCANTÓ, al punto de no poder dejar de pensar en él días después de haberlo terminado.

Lo curioso es que ni siquiera conocía a la autora antes de este libro. Lo descubrí por un lindo fanart y mi instinto lector gritó: TENGO QUE LEERLO. Y obviamente no me equivoqué.

La sinopsis ya es suficiente para atraparte, así que en lugar de resumirla, mejor te la dejo aquí:

Cuando Vanessa Price dejó su trabajo para perseguir su sueño de viajar por el mundo, no esperaba ganar millones de seguidores en YouTube que compartieran su alegría de aprovechar cada momento.
Para ella, VIVIR CADA DÍA AL MÁXIMO no es solo un lema. Su mamá y su hermana nunca llegaron a los 30, y Vanessa no quiere dar nada por sentado.

Pero después de que su hermana deje repentinamente a Vanessa en custodia a su bebé recién nacida, la vida pasa de ser una “aventura diaria” a ser “mala al siguiente nivel” (ahora con un extra de vómito de bebé en el cabello).

Vanessa es una mujer que ha logrado construir una vida que ama. Viaja, conoce el mundo, culturas y personas, documenta absolutamente todo y lo comparte con Fran comunidad de Youtube y, a pesar de tener una familia que constantemente la arrastra hacia el caos, ha encontrado una forma de ser libre. Pero todo cambia cuando de la noche a la mañana tiene que hacerse cargo de una bebé.

Un bebé cambia todo. Y si nunca has cuidado uno, puede sentirse como una catástrofe en cámara lenta.

Ahí es cuando aparece Adrian, el vecino perfecto en el momento perfecto. Un abogado con un corazón de oro y un talento inesperado para calmar bebés. Su presencia en la vida de Vanessa no solo trae apoyo, sino que también abre la puerta a algo que ella había cerrado hace mucho tiempo: la posibilidad de amar y ser amada.

Este libro me pegó fuerte. Me vi reflejada en Vanessa en tantas formas que llegó a ser incómodo. Esa sensación de ser la que siempre “arregla” las cosas, la que tiene que ser fuerte cuando nadie más lo es, el peso de cargar con los errores de otros… Es agotador. Y Abby Jiménez lo retrata con una crudeza y sinceridad que duele.

Pero lo que más me hizo reflexionar fue la pregunta central del libro: ¿Qué harías si supieras que tu tiempo es limitado?

Vanessa ha crecido con el miedo de no llegar a los 30. La vida para ella no es solo un cúmulo de experiencias, sino una cuenta regresiva. Y, sin embargo, ahí está Adrian, dispuesto a quedarse, a arriesgarse, a ser su hogar, aunque el final sea incierto.

La relación entre ellos se construye de manera tan natural, tan hermosa, que no puedes evitar enamorarte con ellos. No es solo romance, es compañerismo, apoyo, ternura y el tipo de amor que se queda incluso cuando todo parece ir en contra.

Y, siendo honesta, hay algo increíblemente atractivo en un hombre que es bueno con los niños. No sé qué tipo de instinto primitivo se activa, pero wow.

Este libro me lo dio TODO: drama, romance, momentos divertidos, reflexiones profundas y un final que me dejó con el corazón contento y chiquito.

Si buscas una historia que te haga reír, llorar y pensar en las decisiones que tomamos en la vida, Life’s Too Short es para ti.
