Synopsis

Kitty Talbot needs a fortune. Or, rather, she needs a man who has one. After all, this is 1818 and only males have the privilege of obtaining their own wealth.
With barely twelve weeks to go before she and her sisters are homeless, Kitty has only one option: the London social season, where she must use every ounce of ingenuity she possesses to secure a wealthy husband.

However, the suspicious Lord Radcliffe is determined to thwart her plans at any cost. He doesn't care that the gold-digger in question has an agile mind, an unbreakable spirit and eyes with a most interesting twinkle in them.

For her part, Kitty knows she can't waste a moment and won't let anyone, not even a lord, stand in her way.

I found this novel snooping around on Goodreads, (if you have an account there I invite you to follow me) and the synopsis alone made me want to read it because it looked extremely funny, and truth be told, I wasn't wrong.

It's an absolute romantic comedy, with more comedy than romance. A cross between The Bridgertons and Pride and Prejudice, specifically the second book of The Bridgertons because the interactions between Kitty and James have the same vibes as Anthony and Kate.

She was of the opinion that one made one's own luck, and she had the feeling that she was about to be very lucky.

I found Kitty amazing. A hilarious, daring, intelligent, courageous, and strong-willed woman. She is capable of doing anything for her family, even if she is not overflowing with morality.

I was very amused by how manipulative Kitty is, she always found a way to take advantage of a situation, and if the situation didn't arise, she created the situation herself.

The best part of the book was Kitty's witticisms and her exchanges of barbs with Radcliffe. I laughed a lot. The relationship between them builds little by little. Between the sarcasm and irony that always surrounded their conversations, a certain trust was building that allowed them to get to know each other in depth.

—Mrs. Pemberton will be attending the Jersey Ball tonight. She is a very Christian woman, I am told, so I intend to spend the afternoon studying the scriptures for the occasion.
-Ah!-exclaimed Radcliffe. I wish you the best of luck. Let me know if you find any passages in the Bible about marrying for money. I wonder if Christ our Lord was for or against it?

And although, it is obviously a book with romance, you won't find a passionate romance here, as after reading it I feel that it could be better classified as a book with a lot of comedy due to Kitty's adventures in her quest to get a rich husband.

So, if you like Pride and Prejudice, The Bridgertons or in general, period novels with fun and sassy protagonists, and you want to read something light that will give you a good time, this novel is for you.

—Do you really think I'm that manipulative? -she asked angelically.
-Yes -James answered immediately, though not without affection. I have long known you to be a villain of the worst sort.

Sinopsis

Kitty Talbot necesita una fortuna. O, mejor dicho, necesita a un hombre que tenga una. Al fin y al cabo, esto es 1818 y solo los varones cuentan con el privilegio de obtener su propia riqueza.
Con apenas doce semanas para que sus hermanas y ella se queden sin hogar, Kitty tiene una única opción: la temporada social londinense, en la que deberá emplear cada gramo de ingenio que posee para conseguir un marido rico.

Sin embargo, el desconfiado lord Radcliffe está decidido a frustrar sus planes a cualquier precio. Le da igual que la cazafortunas en cuestión tenga una mente ágil, un espíritu inquebrantable y unos ojos con un brillo de lo más interesante.

Por su parte, Kitty tiene claro que no puede perder ni un instante y no permitirá que nadie, ni siquiera un lord, se interponga en su camino.

Esta novela la encontré husmeando en Goodreads (si tienes cuenta allí te invito a seguirme) y solo la sinopsis me hizo querer leerla porque se veía sumamente divertida, y la verdad, no me equivoqué.

Es una absoluta comedia romántica, con más comedia que romance. Una mezcla entre Los Bridgerton y Orgullo y Prejuicio, específicamente el segundo libro de Los Bridgerton porque las interacciones entre Kitty y James tienen las mismas vibras que las de Anthony y Kate.

Era de la opinión de que uno se labraba su propia suerte, y tenía la sensación de que estaba a punto de ser muy afortunada.

Kitty me pareció increíble. Una mujer divertidísima, atrevida, inteligente, valiente y de armas tomar. Capaz de hacer lo que sea por su familia , incluso si no está rebosante de moralidad.

Me causó mucha gracia lo manipuladora que es Kitty, siempre encontraba la manera de sacar provecho de una situación, y si no se daba la situacion, ella misma creaba la situación.

Lo mejor del libro fueron las ocurrencias de Kitty y sus intercambios de puyas con Radcliffe. Me rei muchísimo. La relación entre ellos se va construyendo poco a poco. Entre el sarcasmo y la ironía que siempre rodeaba sus conversaciones, se iba creando cierta confianza que les permitió conocerse a profundidad.

—La señora Pemberton asistirá esta noche al baile de los Jersey. Es una mujer muy cristiana, según me cuentan, así que tengo intención de pasarme la tarde estudiando las escrituras para la ocasión.
—Ah —exclamó Radcliffe—. Le deseo mucha suerte. Infórmeme si encuentra algún pasaje en la Biblia acerca de casarse por dinero. ¿Me pregunto si Cristo Nuestro Señor estaba a favor o en contra?

Y aunque, es obvio que es un libro con romance, aquí no encontrarás un romance apasionado, ya que luego de leerlo considero que se podría clasificar mejor como un libro con mucha comedia debido a las aventuras de Kitty en su afán por conseguir un marido rico.

Así que, si te gusta Orgullo y Prejuicio, Los Bridgerton o en general, novelas de época con protagonistas divertidas y descaradas, y quieres leer algo ligero que te haga pasar un buen rato, esta novela es para ti.

—¿De verdad me crees tan manipuladora? —preguntó con aire angelical.
—Sí —contestó James de inmediato, aunque no sin cariño—. Hace mucho que sé que eres una villana de la peor calaña.
