El espacio estuvo cerrado por muchos años, y en la actualidad hay planteamientos para rescatarlo. Tengo la peculiaridad de investigar un poco sobre algunos lugares a los que he visitado y he hecho fotografía; con ello, me he llevado muchas sorpresas envueltas de historia. El hecho de que una plaza, en Belencito-Boyacá, estuviese cerrada al público por la Empresa siderúrgica Acerías Paz del Río, llamó mucho mi atención. En ese lugar se encuentra el museo de dicha empresa, operando con buenas instalaciones. Además, está la capilla de "Nuestra Señora de Belén".

The fact that a square in Belencito-Boyacá was closed to the public by the steel company Acerías Paz del Río, caught my attention. In that place is the museum of that company, operating with good facilities. In addition, there is the chapel of “Nuestra Señora de Belén”.

Fotografiar estos espacios me hace pensar mucho en cómo las visiones de las personas y pueblos dan curso a su propia historia, dejando rastros y huellas a las próximas generaciones. Al menos para mí, es curioso ver cómo los pueblos se van estableciendo en el tiempo a partir de su sentido de pertenencia y su idiosincrasia. Hablando con personas de la zona, muchos habían olvidado cómo era el lugar, mientras que otros desconocían todo lo que allí había allí dentro, todo era nuevo para ellos. Estas cosas me dejan maravillado, son experiencias que inmortalizo en fotografía.
Photographing these spaces makes me think a lot about how the visions of people and towns give course to their own history, leaving traces and traces to the next generations. At least for me, it is curious to see how people establish themselves over time based on their sense of belonging and their idiosyncrasy. Talking to people from the area, many had forgotten what the place was like, while others were unaware of everything that was in there, everything was new to them. These things leave me in awe, they are experiences that I immortalize in photography.
En un inicio contemplé editar las fotografías en blanco y negro, por toda la historia que involucra, conceptualizar la imagen de esa manera. Sin embargo, el hecho tan importante para ellos de reabrir un espacio cerrado por muchos años, ha sido un acto de redescubrimiento, de rescatar su identidad y seguir viviendo el presente de una mejor manera. Por esa razón, editar en color y resaltar la esencia de ese lugar considero ha sido muy acertado. Ha sido una experiencia para reflexionar sobre la importancia de la memoria colectiva. Documentar este rincón de Belencito ha sido muy gratificante.
At the beginning I contemplated editing the photographs in black and white, because of all the history involved, conceptualizing the image in that way. However, the fact that it was so important for them to reopen a space closed for many years, has been an act of rediscovery, to rescue their identity and to continue living the present in a better way. For that reason, editing in color and highlighting the essence of that place has been very successful. It has been an experience to reflect on the importance of collective memory. Documenting this corner of Belencito has been very rewarding.
