Killing it softly.
A few days ago we had a family reunion at my parent in law's house. It was my mother in law's birthday and we prepared a few things to celebrate such a date in family. It wasn't a party or anything like that, we had dinner with a couple of beers and cutted a kake after that.
But before the kake, as usual in those family meals, we stayed a while at the table after dinner having a conversation. In the background while dinner, some old music was playing, beautiful music by the way that made me remember my childhood.
Anyway, my father in law launched a reflection about music, times and segments of population to which music of his time(which we were listening to) had better aceptance.
Back then there was no youth or grown ups music splitted in any ocation, the popular music at that time was totally accepted, liked and enjoyed by people of all ages. Everybody sang and danced the dame music.
He said with a nostalgic and reflective tone.
It happens that, as in many other things, many of us humans(me unincluded), have been involutional as the years go by in creation, preference and consume of music. In some measure good music, quality music, has been left aside to a few of us who really value it and enjoy it, to be replaced for commercial, non sense and marginal music. Don't get me wrong, the reachness of music allows any genres in which, of course, music is produced and rightly done, accompanied by lyrics that say something and everyone's free to listen or prefer what they want.
But the way I see it some respect to real music concept was lost in the transition to this age we are living in today, in both, music producers and consumers. Being so comercial has, far from enriching and making music grow evolutionally and quialitily, made it generally poorer in quality and content.
It doesn't sell.
It was the answer of a singer in an interview I saw( after singing a really nice ballad) in which the interviewer asked...*Why don't you compose more of this kind of songs?
So, the musicians in a way are forced to adjust their creation to the concept some other emerging "musicians" have stablished with their knifes killing it (music) softly.
Again, any genre deserve respect, as long as it's serious and backed up by real talent and true creation values, there will always gonna be likes and dislikes, it's ok, but music deserves respect as well, as true musicians do and also true listeners.
Back then, in my father in law's younger times there were different genres as well, but still music was healthier, aliver and well received, valued and recognized by every listener no matter the age.
Those times certainly won't be coming back, but here, I, a true listener(as I consider myself) will drop some of what I also consider good music.
Agreed or not, like it or not it's ok, it's just music and it's just my modest perception. Hold on to yours and drop it down in the comments if you like to.
Here's my #sarurdayselections.
