Two Shots of Energenia Mediterrinia
This is Energia Mediterranea (Mediterranean Energy) a striking public art installation located in Motta d’Affermo, on the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily AKA the north Coast. It was created by artist Antonio di Palma in 1989–1990, the sculpture forms part of the renowned open-air museum Fiumara d'Arte, a collection of monumental artworks scattered throughout the Sicilian landscape.
The artwork itself is a large, stylised sculpture of a wave, painted in vivid blue. Approximately 5 meters high and about 20 meters long, the sweeping shape symbolically links the two contrasting elements of the landscape: the mountains and the sea. By capturing the dynamic motion of a Mediterranean wave, Energia Mediterranea serves as a metaphor for the continuous harmony and connection between nature’s seemingly opposing forces.
And oddly my favourite place was actually under it, using it as a frame for the wider landscape.....
