The Western Honey Bee

So I was pretty excited by seeing this bee, for a kid who lives in the city to get into the country and see some wildlife, both bee and small is exciting. I was imagining that this was some sort of native (to Australia) amazing bee but alas it is 'just' a Western Honey bee, the most common type of bee in the world.

But have you ever really looked at a bee, I mean it's much easier when you have pointed a 450mm lens at one making it a far amount bigger than in real life, but look at those colouring, they are perfectly, well bee like

You know Bees carry pollen right, to pollinate flowers, but have you ever really considered how and what it looks like, well those are 'bags' of orangey pollen on the leg of the bee.

And I light dusting of pollen on both the bee and the plant which it's pollinating. And no I have no idea what type of plant it is. If anyone knows let me know, These shots were taken in Paradise Beach, which is in Gippsland in South East Australia, right near 90 mile beach

These are very educational photos because they illustrate how much coverage the bee makes of the plants it pollinates in the time it took. The flowers bring white helps accentuate this. That’s just plain awesome!
