Sunset on the Lake_.jpg

Lake Taupō, located in the North Island of New Zealand, is the country's largest lake, It was formed by a massive volcanic eruption approximately 26,500 years ago, it sits in the caldera of the Taupō Volcano. The lake measures about 40km long, 30km wide, and up to 186m deep.

We are on the eastern shore looking west, obviously as the sun dies behind the hills and the birds play. We are maybe 3km for the town of Taupo, which is well worth a visit if you happen to find yourself pretty much smack bang in the middle of the North Island of New Zealand.
