Quite the commute
I was in a nature area two weeks ago, I knew that it was tucked in behind Tooradin airport, with is in Westernport Bay with is on the southern coast of Mainland of Australia. It's an airport I've driven past maybe 50 times, and I've never seen anything bigger than a Cessna taking off.
but as I stared out across the mangroves, I hear the unmistakable noise of a large helicopter. I assumed it was likely a air ambluance, but as it got closer I knew that wasn't right, I also knew it was unlikely to be a corporate high flyer type situation. Tooradin is not home to luxury homes or amazing gold course.
But what was it? - some digging on the registration and I worked it out. It's the Helicopter from the Yolla offshore gas rig which sits in the Bass Straight. Look closely and you see two high vis guys in the passenger seats. This is their commute to work, every Monday Wednesday and Friday this Helicopter goes from Tooradin to the Rig which is a 50 min flight away.
That is a pretty cool commute to work - certainly beats an hour on a crowded train.
The Platform is 147km off shore, and looks like this
