Porto, a town of street art
My European Adventure continues, today we are examining photos I took over three days in Porto, which is in Northern Portugal. A town reknown for it's history, it's river, it's weirdly dressed university students and some fortified wine.
But it also has some interesting street art...
This piece was right near our apartment and I tried to photogrpah it two or three times, the scale was huge so it was difficult, but I loved the muted colours, the odd horse, it felt like a comic book I wanted to read more of.
I liked this man poking he head out of these seemingly seen better days apartments, I think this might speak to the true modern history of Porto, a little more grimy than the travel blogs would have you believe.
This perhaps goes the other way, very classy amongst all the modern tile work.
I like this just for the simplicity of the crack is wack, I'm not sure if it ironic illegal activity or a government and charity agency using graffiti to speak to the kids in their language - either way it's probably failed.
Very Cool Orange chicken - if you have ever been to Porto and I told you this was 3/4 of the way up the stairs under the Effiel Bridge then you would know that I was very puffed out, and questioning my life choices when I took this shot.
Also if you've been to Porto you have been shouting all through this post - Where is the the Rabbit? This is Porto's most famous piece of street art - It's called 'Half Rabbit' by artist Bordallo II and it's a rabbit made of rubbish, and it's very difficult to photograph in a way that allows you to balance the use of materials and the overall rabbit - which is to say you have to see this one in person if you get a chance, luckily it's only a street or two away from the historic river precinct.
