Life on the Trail in St Andrews - 6 Photos
Country Australia is not always the prettiest place, it's a harsh climate, our plants are best described as hardy rather than stunning, but that doesn't mean a little wander through it won't be fun
We are in St Andrews about a hours drive outside of Melbourne, but it was longer when this place was the place to be. This is gold mining country, and in the 1860's through to the 1890's this place has a healthy population of people who would have made the then long trip from Melbourne to look for gold in the creek I'm walking next to.
And there is evidence of this, from the old ruins of sluices and dams and alike to the two guys which pans still looking, speaking to them, they found nothing, although they would tell me that wouldn't they?
Now it's a nature reserve, it's put back to how it would have looked before that lot came through and of course because this is Australia, yes there were Kangaroos. They always look so annoyed when you find them.
and then of course it's time to hop away from the strange man with a camera.
Kangaroos are pretty amazing to watch, their ability to move at speed amongst the bush and on a hill is amazing.
And that's what this country is - Tall Gum trees and a dense scrub underneath
and of course that scrub is good to hide in if you are a brown Kangaroo, you'll blend right in.
