Lego Build part 1: What is this?

Over the next three days I'm going to tell you about my most recent build, and I'm going to take you through the mindset of a builder.

This post is mystery, There is a part in every Lego build where what you are building doesn't seem to have any bearing on the finished product that you know is coming. So I present to you here some photos and some facts and see if you can work out what I'm building....

This is a legit Lego set, it has somewhere between 1700-2000 pieces in it, and it is a single thing, it's not like a village or anything like that.

This is the first thing you build and honestly could be anything, the base of cars look like this, the foundations of a spaceship, and everything in between.

Or maybe a battle tank

Now a pile of pieces is not very helpful for telling anyone what is being built, but this one is even less helpful than normal, this is one of something like 20 bags and subbags of pieces.

Anyway tune in tomorrow when we enter that all important part of the build - Ohhhhh, I see what this is going to be?
