Swimming for hours is as much a mental challenge as it is physical. One has to fight boredom, fatigue, and even fear— especially if its a large body of water.
Interestingly, people tends to forget that one can get dehydrated even while swimming, because the swimmer still sweat, but one cannot notice because the swimmer is surrounded by water.
Another interesting thing about swimming is that, the body burns a ton of calories. That means the swimmer has to eat a lot before, during, and after to avoid energy crash.
This is really engaging and highly enlightening.
