Short Diary on Wednesday | Short Chamber Talk | Alive and Thriving on May 28, 2025 | Extra (HIVE + Health) Titbits
Hi there. How are you? I hope you are doing great. Welcome to my short diary for Friday, May 23, 2025!
Wednesday was a normal day at work and home. In the morning, after offering the Fajr prayer, I had a second round of morning sleep. Then, I dropped my kid off at his school. Later, I joined the morning shift duty at 8 am. It ended at noon. I picked up my kid from his school. We went to a farm to see the goats we plan to buy for the coming Eid Al Adha. We returned home in half an hour!
In the afternoon, I had an afternoon nap. Later, I joined the duty at 4 pm. It ended at 9 pm. I consulted 37 patients in my chamber on Wednesday. Hence, it was a somewhat busy day at work. In the visa medical section, a good number of people came for the fitness test. I examined the majority of them.
Of 37 patients, one was a patient with bronchial asthma. He was on a salbutamol inhaler, along with some oral medications. I asked him how many times he uses the inhaler. He said that he takes over 15 times per day! That's unusually more! A salbutamol inhaler can be used a maximum of 6 times in 24 hours. So, I wanted to see if he is using it in a proper way or not. I asked him to take a puff in front of him. He took 3 successive puffs together and kept his mouth shut for 10 seconds! That's all! No deep breathing through the mouth! That means 15 times of using the inhaler didn't have any effect on him.
It's quite a common problem among inhaler users. In the majority of the patients, they don't know how to use it properly. As a result, they don't get the benefits from the most useful asthma medication! I taught him how to use it properly. I hope that he can follow the instructions properly!

Health Titbits
Aerobic Vs Anaerobic Exercise
Both aerobic exercise, also known as aerobic training (AT), and anaerobic exercise, also known as resistance training (RT), have significant health benefits. However, there are some differences between them. If the goal is to control or prevent metabolic syndrome, which includes obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, etc., aerobic exercise has been proven to be more beneficial than anaerobic training.
Examples of AT: Walking, jogging, running, cycling, treadmill, stair climbing, aerobic dancing, swimming, etc.
Example of RT: Weight lifting, strength training, sprinting at a very fast speed, etc.
You can find a detailed description of these differences in this article
HIVE Titbits
Commentrewarder: A System to Reward Commenters
Normally, by commenting under any HIVE post, we receive rewards if our comments get upvotes and the reward is above the dust threshold. There is another system that has been developed where an author can share part of his or her rewards with the commenters. The project is designed to encourage engagement within the HIVE ecosystem. Read the announcement post here to learn the details.
To reward the commenters, the author needs to set @commentrewarder as a beneficiary. If someone comments under that post and the comment receives an upvote from the author within 3 days, the commenter will receive the reward. The rewards will be distributed in liquid HIVE after 7 days.
Okay. That's all for today. Alhamdulillah, I am alive, healthy, and thriving. How about you?

It's concerning to hear how common improper inhaler use is among patients.
It's great that you took the time to teach him the correct technique.
Hopefully, with your guidance, he'll start experiencing the full benefits of his medication.
