Don Quixote in Alcala de Hernares, Madrid.
Hello, world mappers,
How are you all doing this weekend? I am still discovering the Costa da Morte in the Nort West part of Spain. But this post is about a complete other part of spain. Right in the centre of the country, next to Madrid.
Alcala de Hernares
This is a nice little city on the east side of Madrid. And it had a famous inhabitant. Don Quixote. Well, that is ofcours a fictional character, but the writer of the storie was born in this town. Miguel de Cervantes.
Don Quixote
Who is he? In a nutshell, Don Quixote is the archetypal tragicomic hero. An old, mad man who, driven by noble ideals and a broken connection with reality, wages war against the evils of the world he alone sees, with his faithful and level-headed companion, Sancho Panza, at his side. His name has become synonymous with impractical idealism and the heroic but hopeless pursuit of lost causes.
Statsue of Miguel de Cervantes.
A statue of Don Quixote in front of the birth house of Cervantes.
The buildings in the city centre of this town looked like they were copied out of the books of Cervantes.
The city square looks even older than that. These buildings look like they were frome the roman tines. The University of Alcala is more than 500 years old. That is really unbelievable . I love old buildings like that. Founded in 1499 and is, togother with the university of Salamanca and Valladolud, one of the oldest universities of Spain.
The main square withe all the old buildings from the town. Churches, the university, the government's building, and the place were they baptist Cervantes.
It is a town full of history with so many historical buildings. There is so much to discover here, I really need to go back some day. Like this tower. It was closed when I got there but you can climb to the top of it for a beautiful view over the city square and its historical buildings.
There are these green walking paths all around the main square. It's so much more fresh underneed those trees.
And during the golden hour, there is a very nice shadow play occurring here. Very nice together with the golden sun light.
And this bar still gives you free tapas with your beers. La Tonasa. I will pinpoint it in my world mapping map. You will find it in de comments below. Go have a beer here if you are around.
And this also happened, a famous tv show was recorded in the city. I tried to get in to frame, but unfortunately, it didn't work. I will not be famous here 😅
Thank you for reading my posts and enjoying my pictures. I know, to much of them again. I know I have a pohotography problem 😋
