  We live in a capitalist world, where we get our money from our salary and spend it. We can divide our expenses into essential expenses, such as food, health-related, education-related, and general living expenses. However, we have extra money that we can spend on hobbies, entertainment, electronic devices, other superfluous buying, or even investments thinking in the gaining and rise of this extra money.

  We know that something is superfluous when we spend money on a thing that gives us some moments of attention and pleasure. How many things have we already shopped for and the next day we forgot about it? Sometimes we think that it is a waste of money, Sometimes these expenses bring more comfort to a situation, we can compare the difference between buying a car and just using public transport. Cars usually have many expenses associated with their buying but they give more comfort for our daily transportation, in addition, it is very difficult to do monthly grocery shopping without a car.

  In my whole life, I had many things that I like to buy and don't regret, but there are also things that I regret a lot of buying. I think that both extremes can be found in the investments area which I can describe further.

  Vivemos em um mundo capitalista, onde conseguimos dinheiro através do nosso salário e o gastamos. Podemos dividir nossos gastos em despesas essenciais, como alimentação, relacionadas à saúde, à educação e despesas gerais de subsistência. No entanto, temos dinheiro extra que podemos gastar com hobbies, entretenimento, dispositivos eletrônicos, outras compras supérfluas ou até mesmo investimentos, pensando no ganho e crescimento desse dinheiro extra.

Sabemos que algo é supérfluo quando gastamos dinheiro em algo que nos proporciona alguns momentos de atenção e prazer. Quantas coisas já compramos e esquecemos no dia seguinte? Às vezes, pensamos que é um desperdício de dinheiro. Às vezes, essas despesas trazem mais conforto a uma situação. Podemos comparar a diferença entre comprar um carro e apenas usar transporte público. Carros geralmente têm muitas despesas associadas à sua compra, mas oferecem mais conforto para nosso transporte diário; além disso, é muito difícil fazer compras mensais sem um carro.

Em toda a minha vida, tive muitas coisas que gostei de comprar e não me arrependo, mas também há coisas que lamento muito ter comprado. Acredito que ambos os extremos podem ser encontrados na área de investimentos, o que posso descrever mais detalhadamente.

Buying a house

  In 2019 I executed one of the most important financial events in my life, I bought my first house. When I was living in Rio de Janeiro I couldn't find a way to buy my first house, since it was very expensive. With both salaries of our family, we couldn't afford even a mortgage, Brazil has a big interest rate for mortgages, I remember being around 10%. In addition, the real estate prices were crazy in the city, converting to USD our household income was a bit less than 2,000 USD per month and the price of a 2 bedroom apartment was around 100,000 USD. I remember the bank wanting us to deposit a down payment of half of that amount which was impossible for us. We were living on rental there, we were paying between 500-600 USD per month for a two-bedroom apartment(remember about our salary if you think that it is cheap). When I moved to Canada, we for sure started to rent an apartment, since we got here with a work visa. After 1 year of living in Canada, I saw that it was a bit different from the real state expectations here in Canada compared to Brazil, so maybe I could fulfill my dream of buying my own house. So right after getting my Permanent Residency status, I bought a house. The interest rates were much lower than in Brazil and the price compared to my salary was also much better. Our house in Moncton was amazing, with a nice backyard and located in a Court where my daughter could play with her neighborhood friends. It was the perfect environment. In 2021 I had to move to another city, I got a job offer in Lethbridge, almost on the West Coast of Canada. However the real estate market got valuable in Moncton, I could sell my house for double the price that I bought, so when I bought a house in Lethbridge I had some spare money from this sale that was saved for other investments. So the house buying brought me personal satisfaction and also good investment outcomes.

Investing in a crypto that went down

  I started to see crypto as a good investment before the current bear market. At that time crypto.com was growing a lot as an important exchange and their credit card with cashback rewards was an interesting way to get cashback in crypto. Their coin called CRO was the base for everything in their exchange including being able to raise your rewards and credit card status by staking the token. For the first time, I added personal money, from my savings in crypto buying CRO, around 5,000 CAD. I was optimistic about the possibilities in the exchange. And then the bear market came and also they decided to change some policies with the cashback rewards, I felt so pissed. Everybody was expecting a season of thinner cows during the bear market, but when they changed all the policies, the credit card that I had was going to reduce its rewards and some benefits. With all of that, you saw the CRO price reduce by almost 10x of its original value. By luck, I didn't see my money being reduced by 10x, but I still lost some money. I learned a hard lesson to be a bit cautious with FOMO events in crypto. I think I was a bit affected by the FOMO when I saw crypto.com as an awesome resource for seeing my money grow fast.

Compra de uma casa

  Em 2019, executei um dos eventos financeiros mais importantes da minha vida: comprei minha primeira casa. Quando eu morava no Rio de Janeiro, não conseguia encontrar uma maneira de comprar minha primeira casa, pois era muito cara. Com os salários da nossa família, não conseguíamos nem mesmo pagar um financiamento, pois o Brasil possui uma alta taxa de juros para financiamentos imobiliários, lembro de ser em torno de 10%. Além disso, os preços dos imóveis estavam fora de controle na cidade; convertendo para dólares americanos, a renda mensal de nossa família era um pouco menos de 2.000 dólares, e o preço de um apartamento de dois quartos era cerca de 100.000 dólares. Lembro-me do banco querendo que depositássemos uma entrada equivalente à metade desse valor, o que era impossível para nós. Estávamos morando de aluguel lá, pagando entre 500-600 dólares por mês por um apartamento de dois quartos (lembre-se de nossa renda se achar que é barato). Quando me mudei para o Canadá, certamente começamos a alugar um apartamento, pois chegamos aqui com um visto de trabalho. Após 1 ano morando no Canadá, percebi que as expectativas em relação ao mercado imobiliário eram um pouco diferentes aqui no Canadá em comparação ao Brasil, então talvez eu pudesse realizar meu sonho de comprar minha própria casa. Então, logo após obter meu status de Residência Permanente, comprei uma casa. As taxas de juros eram muito menores do que no Brasil e o preço em comparação com meu salário também era muito melhor. Nossa casa em Moncton era incrível, com um quintal agradável e localizada em uma rua onde minha filha podia brincar com os amigos do bairro. Era o ambiente perfeito. Em 2021, tive que me mudar para outra cidade, recebi uma oferta de emprego em Lethbridge, quase na Costa Oeste do Canadá. No entanto, o mercado imobiliário se valorizou em Moncton; pude vender minha casa por o dobro do preço que comprei, então, quando comprei uma casa em Lethbridge, tinha algum dinheiro extra dessa venda que foi guardado para outros investimentos. Portanto, a compra da casa me trouxe satisfação pessoal e também bons resultados de investimento.

Investindo em uma criptomoeda que desvalorizou

  Comecei a ver criptomoedas como um bom investimento antes do atual mercado de baixa. Naquela época, a crypto.com estava crescendo muito como uma exchange importante e o cartão de crédito deles com recompensas de cashback era uma maneira interessante de obter cashback em criptomoedas. A moeda deles chamada CRO era a base de tudo na exchange deles, incluindo a capacidade de aumentar suas recompensas e status do cartão de crédito apostando a token. Pela primeira vez, adicionei dinheiro pessoal, das minhas economias em cripto, comprando CRO, cerca de 5.000 CAD. Eu estava otimista sobre as possibilidades na exchange. E então, o mercado de baixa chegou e eles decidiram mudar algumas políticas com as recompensas de cashback, fiquei muito chateado. Todos estavam esperando uma temporada de vacas magras durante o mercado de baixa, mas quando eles mudaram todas as políticas, o cartão de crédito que eu tinha ia reduzir suas recompensas e alguns benefícios. Com tudo isso, você viu o preço do CRO reduzindo quase 10 vezes o seu valor original. Por sorte, não vi meu dinheiro reduzir 10 vezes, mas ainda perdi algum dinheiro. Aprendi uma lição difícil para ser um pouco cauteloso com eventos de FOMO em cripto. Acho que fui um pouco afetado pelo FOMO quando vi a crypto.com como um recurso incrível para ver meu dinheiro crescer rapidamente.

  It is interesting that my life has two important stories related to investments while saying about money spent well or bad. But even in the bad moments, we learn a bit and in the end, we gain something from that. Experience in bad shopping is important to avoid the same mistake in the future. I still have a big dream in crypto, and hopefully, I can reach this dream and see it in my real life like I accomplished my dream of having my own house.

  É interessante que minha vida tenha duas histórias importantes relacionadas a investimentos ao falar sobre dinheiro gasto bem ou mal. Mas mesmo nos momentos ruins, aprendemos um pouco e, no final, ganhamos algo com isso. A experiência em compras ruins é importante para evitar o mesmo erro no futuro. Ainda tenho um grande sonho no campo das criptomoedas, e espero sinceramente alcançar esse sonho e vê-lo se concretizar na minha vida real, assim como realizei meu sonho de ter minha própria casa.

Wow! That's expensive in Rio and half down.... Ouch... Glad it's worked out better in Canada. That old bear market got us all on some investments. Live and learn, but hopefully this upcoming bull will make up for all of those!

Yes it is! I remember a spanish girl that worked in my institute she arrived converted everything to euro so for her was very cheap… then when she started to receive her salary there … she couldnt take it for more then 1 year lol .

Buying house and land is the most profitable things and wise man try to buy house and land. So not out you have taken a right decision in that time.

In case of crypto investment I think it may be turned into a good decision with time who knows. If you suffered loss then there are possibility also to make money.

buying a land or a house is actually a good invest ment as there would be profit when you anna sell, but you see crypto , you have to be very wise when dealing in it

The intrest rates here in India also around 9% for home loan which are on higher side. For 15 year of loan term we are paying almost double the amount but without a load it's not possible to buy home for a middle class family.
Glad to know that you make profit for the house you purchased.
