The Outsider: A good Stephen King story out of my radar for a while.

  I recently got access to Crave in here, and I got in touch with an HBO series that for a while I didn't have access since the last season of Game of Thrones that I paid just during the season. So I missed many good shows and that one I found while googling around. The Outsider is based on Stephen King's novel from 2018. This is a mini-series with 10 episodes from 2020 and brings Cynthia Erivo before her success as Elphaba in Wicked, which brought her some Oscar nominations. In addition to her we have other actors that are regularly in different shows like Julianne Nicholson, who plays Samantha "Sinatra", the mastermind from Disney's TV show "Paradise" (which I am waiting with anxiety for the second season) .

  I loved Cyntia's role in "The Outsiders" as a special detective, Holly Gibney, with some interesting powers and almost supernatural memory and perception powers. However, the role of Ben Mendelsohn as the main detective, Ralph Anderson, during the show had another importance. He plays a skeptical detective that took probably 9 episodes until he really believes in the fact that there is supernatural forces associated to the case after so many evidences being brought, even from his wife. In addition to his skeptical characteristic, we also see him as a grumpy character, and his favorite line is with hums and deep breaths.

  The beginning quite confuses us since we see a good parent and society model, Terry Maitland, committing a terrible mutilation of a child in the small town of Cherokee City in Georgia. Terry gets arrested during a baseball match where he coaches a young league. So a guy connected to kids doing this terrible thing? It isn't something unusual in our current world, but the show continues and we start to doubt whether Terry was the murderer. fingerprints, video footages and other evidence from the moment of the crime link to Terry. However, at the time of the murder, Terry was in a Conference out of town. So that is something that bugs the detective and people envolved to the investigation.

 The supernatural starts to play a role like many of Stephen King stories and the killer has been doing that for a long time with some interesting powers like shapeshifting, psychic projections like being in places without really being there and psychic manipulation of other humans. Holly Gibney understood everything that the creature was doing even before meeting it in person. The only question that was left is if there is a way to kill the creature. And probably that was the final answer that both Gibney and Anderson got in the end together.

  The mini-series that, at least even after 6 years, was a bit outside my radar because I wasn't following HBO's releases, but it is totally worth if you are a Stephen King fan. And the cast helps a lot, of course.Each episode takes around 1h so I took a bit more than a week to watch it. If I was too tired, I couldn't end one entire episode in one night.

Além dela, temos outros atores que aparecem regularmente em diferentes séries, como Julianne Nicholson, que interpreta Samantha "Sinatra", a mente por trás da série da Disney "Paradise" (cuja segunda temporada estou aguardando ansiosamente).

 Adorei o papel de Cyntia em "The Outsiders" como a detetive especial Holly Gibney, com alguns poderes interessantes e habilidades de memória e percepção quase sobrenaturais. No entanto, o papel de Ben Mendelsohn como o detetive principal, Ralph Anderson, teve outra importância na série. Ele interpreta um detetive cético que levou provavelmente nove episódios para realmente acreditar que há forças sobrenaturais associadas ao caso, após tantas evidências apresentadas, inclusive por sua esposa. Além de seu ceticismo, também o vemos como um personagem mal-humorado, e sua fala favorita é acompanhada de resmungos e respirações profundas.

 O início nos confunde bastante, pois vemos um bom pai e modelo social, Terry Maitland, cometendo uma terrível mutilação de uma criança na pequena cidade de Cherokee City, na Geórgia. Terry é preso durante uma partida de beisebol da qual é técnico de uma liga juvenil. Então, um homem ligado a crianças cometendo essa coisa terrível? Não é algo incomum no mundo atual, mas a série continua e começamos a duvidar se Terry era o assassino. Impressões digitais, filmagens e outras evidências do momento do crime o ligam a Terry. No entanto, na época do assassinato, Terry estava em uma conferência fora da cidade. Isso incomodou o detetive e as pessoas envolvidas na investigação.

 O sobrenatural começa a desempenhar um papel, como em muitas histórias de Stephen King, e o assassino já vinha agindo dessa forma há muito tempo, com poderes interessantes como metamorfose, projeções psíquicas (como estar em lugares sem realmente estar lá) e manipulação psíquica de outros humanos. Holly Gibney compreendeu tudo o que a criatura estava fazendo, mesmo antes de encontrá-la pessoalmente. A única questão que restava era se havia uma maneira de matar a criatura. E provavelmente essa foi a resposta final que Gibney e Anderson encontraram juntos.

  A minissérie que, mesmo depois de 6 anos, passou um pouco despercebida por mim, já que eu não acompanhava os lançamentos da HBO, mas vale muito a pena se você é fã de Stephen King. E o elenco ajuda bastante, claro. Cada episódio tem cerca de 1 hora, então levei um pouco mais de uma semana para assistir. Se eu estivesse muito cansado, não conseguia terminar um episódio inteiro em uma noite.
