The king of vintage bars: Johnson Matthey.

  I talked a bit before about Johnson Matthey (JM) mint, especially when I talked about my Asahi's silver. The Japanese group bought their US refining and JM stopped producing silver bars, which was their specialty. Because of that, aquiring at least 1 JM bar was in my list of to have for a while. Until I finally got a nice sealed bar. Depending on the bar, it can reach a good resale price, especially their Space Series from the 70s. Probably it is the most valuable vintage silver that I have seen for far. The example below, for example, 1oz of silver for 300 USD, that's is crazy, I love this bar but I think I don't have the courage to have it.

  I could buy my first JM bar for a good price at the time, 52 CAD, it was a couple of months ago, probably right now I can sell it for over 60 CAD for sure. It is a classic JM bar with the reverse full of their symbol (JM plus the hammers). ANd a serial number which is unique for each product.It is one of the most famous vintage silver bars that exist in the market and they got some value since they aren't produced anymore.

  Recently, this year, Asahi decided to mint a round celebrating this retired silver refining company that was bought by them with a 1oz round. Of course that I had to get it. The round brings some classical design, it looks like you have an old coin in your hands, but in reality was minted in 2025. They used JM's name and symbol, the same symbol found in the bar that I bought. After this release made other old-school Mints like Engelhard also came back and minted old designs. I just saw that my friend from SGS @silversaver888 just got the new 2025 Prospector. I participated in the pre-sale and probably will get it in the next couple of weeks.

  I am always looking for new designs, but I am also interested in the past and good old designs that got famous through the decades in the Precious Metals community. Probably I won't have any sky lab bar series, but they are so pretty and I admire them a lot. I am very satisfied with my JM's silver right now, maybe if I found more bars in the market, I would buy them.

  Já falei um pouco sobre a casa da moeda Johnson Matthey (JM), especialmente quando falei sobre a minha prata Asahi. O grupo japonês comprou sua refinaria nos EUA e a JM parou de produzir barras de prata, que era sua especialidade. Por isso, adquirir pelo menos uma barra JM estava na minha lista de desejos há algum tempo. Até que finalmente consegui uma barra selada em bom estado. Dependendo da barra, ela pode atingir um bom preço de revenda, especialmente a Space Series dos anos 70. Provavelmente é a prata vintage mais valiosa que já vi até agora. O exemplo abaixo, por exemplo, 1 onça de prata por 300 dólares, é uma loucura. Eu adoro esta barra, mas acho que não tenho coragem de comprá-la.

  Eu consegui comprar minha primeira barra JM por um bom preço na época, 52 CAD, foi há alguns meses, provavelmente agora posso vendê-la por mais de 60 CAD, com certeza. É uma das barras de prata vintage mais famosas que existem no mercado e elas têm algum valor, já que não são mais produzidas.

  Recentemente, neste ano, a Asahi decidiu cunhar uma moeda redonda em homenagem a esta empresa de refino de prata aposentada que foi comprada por eles, com uma moeda redonda de 1 onça. É claro que eu tinha que comprar. A moeda redonda traz um design clássico, parecendo uma moeda antiga, mas na realidade foi cunhada em 2025. Eles usaram o nome e o símbolo da JM, o mesmo símbolo encontrado na barra que comprei. Após este lançamento, outras Casas da Moeda antigas, como a Engelhard, também voltaram e cunharam designs antigos. Acabei de ver que meu amigo da SGS, @silversaver888, acabou de adquirir a nova Prospector de 2025. Participei da pré-venda e provavelmente a receberei nas próximas semanas.

  Estou sempre procurando novos designs, mas também me interesso pelos designs antigos e pelos bons designs que se tornaram famosos ao longo das décadas na comunidade de Metais Preciosos. Provavelmente não terei nenhuma série de barras Sky Lab, mas elas são tão bonitas e eu as admiro muito. Estou muito satisfeito com a prata do meu JM agora. Talvez, se eu encontrasse mais barras no mercado, eu as comprasse.
